These detailed investigations inlo waier resources, present use, and ultimate water requirements, which began in central and west ern Siskiyou County, are now en tering a new phase, Illingworth reports. Karly this year, surface water diversions in Ihe California portion of the Klamath River Basin were located and the owners inter viewed. Now. the actual quantities of water involved in these diver sions are being determined, and crops mapped. At the same time, a similar study is being started in Rutte Valley, on Butte and Antelope creeks, and in the Lost River wa lershed in California. The prelim inary location of diversions and interviews with owners will start immediately, with measurement and t crop mapping activities planned for next summer. This work is being closely co ordinated with work done for the Klamath River Irnerxtate Compact Commission. " The investigations are part of a California-wide survey to deterrrv ine what amounts of surplus wa ter, if any. would be available for export to other watersheds without depriving the watersheds of origin of any amount necessary for bene, ficial use in the future. Quantities of water, if any, available (or export. 4. Areas which could be served by such exported water.
