AUGUST 3, 1958 7 BING MAR China Pupil Studies Hard MOUNT SHASTA - Bing Mar rhinpse hnrn ornduatfi from Mount Shasta High School, who will enter OTI at Klamath Falls this Septem ber, is a living example of the East and West meeting and blend ing perfectly. Bing brought about this condition by dint of much bard work and determination. A native of Canton, Bing came to America in 1950, and decided that he needed an education. To get that he applied for admission in Mount Shasta grammar school, but was refused admission. Looking back at that period, the now well adjusted Cantonese finds it amusing. He says, "How could I, a 16-year-old get into grade school when I didn't know any thing, and couldn't speak under standable English?" Two years of night study, and the determined boy again applied for admission. He was admitted into the seventh grade and was promoted to the eighth grade with in two weeks. He entered high school the following year. On grad uation last June, Bing was award cd one of the two scholarships given by the Mount Shasta Rotary Club. While in high school, Bing at tained honor roll status, was busi ness manager of the student body, and achieved honors in photog raphy. Ho also supported himself by working nights, morning and holidays while attending classes, His goal is to become a working X-ray technician, and help other deserving students, who may be handicapped by various conditions, to secure an education. Rocket Experts Take Look At Solving Traffic Jams By ALTON BLAKESLEE Associated Press Science Writer MOSCOW (AP)-Rocket experts are taking & look at the problem of preventing space traffic jams and getting rid of old man-made moons. Do you blow up useless satel lites, shoot them into the sun, send them skylarking into the cosmos or bring them back home? Right now just four satellites are circling the earth a huge Sputnik and three small U.a moons. But one day there could be hundreds from numerous coun tries. Collisions would be a remote chance, but the dead soldiers could be a nuisance, interfering with other and better experiments or space travel. Blowing up the old satellites with time bombs is no solution because the pieces would still or bit and become dangerous space junk. Ways might be worked out to recover them if they are close to earth, to send them falling into the sun to be consumed or to send them jaunting further into space, off the beaten tracks. He's Coming Back! Watch for him-soon! The question of how to recover or destroy satellites whose, mis sion is complete is on the agenda of the Committee on Rockets and Satellites at the special meeting of the International Geophysical Year Committee under way here. The agenda also lists discussion of the radio frequency voices us able for future satellites to avoid a Tower of Babel on the air waves; a possible international quota of satellites that should cir culate at one time; a central agency for satellites or spaceships to other planets; and questions concerning other bodies, such as the moon or the planets. The most immediate questions concern how to share most fully and efficiently the IGY informa tion obtained by the satellites; how best to track satellites; and similar problems. Among changes made in ar rangements this year are setting the closing day for Saturday in stead of the usual Sunday termin ation, with visitors' day set fur Saturday afternoon from 1:45 to 3:15. New TV Stations Granted By FCC WASHINGTON (AP) Grants for two new television translator stations in Oregon were issued Thursday by the Federal Com munications Commission. One went to California-Oregon Television Inc. of Klamath Falls to operate Channels 71 and 73 for the Cow Creek area. i The other is for Channels "I. 75 and 81, on which North Sherman Television Co-Op of Wasco will re produce Portland stations.
