Jordan AP U.S. trouble shooter Robert Murphy left for Israel today alter discuss ing the Middle East situation lor 2'i hours with King Hussein. Some sources indicated Mur phy's visit to Amman was primar ily a courtesy call since the U.S. deputy undersecretary n state was in the area. Ho came here yesterday from Beirut, where he has been trying to get rebel and government forces together. Murphy planned to fly back to Beirut tonight after meeting Is raeli Premier David Ben-Gurion in Tel Aviv. The diplomat drove to Jerusalem for a brief round of sightseeing before crossing into Israel for lunrh anH tho trin to Tel Aviv. Murphy's visit to Jordan and Israel kept him out of Lebanon today during the parliamentary election of a new president. Whether this timing , was delib erate or accidental was not stat ed, but some observers considered it a deliberate step to avoid charges of trying to influence the election. An American source said Mur phy's talk last night with Hussein "covered the whole range of Mid dle East problems with emphasis on Jordan." What they said was not disclosed, but Hussein pre sumably asked again for the addi tion of U.S. troops to the 2.000 British soldiers sitting on Amman airfield to bolster his regime. Ihsahn Hashim. Jordan's under secretary of stale, said Hussein had not given up hope of U.S. forces being sent. But U.S. Charge d'Affaires Thomas K. Wright of St. Petersburg. Hall at 8 p.m. She Is the first department auxiliary commander to be elected from Klamath Falls. Mrs. DeLap was elected at the 37th annual state con vention in Medford on June 14. Ship Accident Injures Trio TOLEDO. Ohio (AP)-A 210-foot excursion ship with 883 passengers aboard rammed into the Toledo Terminal railroad bridge last night as the bridge's swing-span closed in front of the steamer. Only three persons aboard the SS Canadians suffered injuries and all were minor. They were treated at hospitals and released Capt. Phillip Thrope said the ex cursion boat, which runs daily be tween here and Bob-lo Island in the Detroit River, was following the freighter Frank E. Taplin into the Maumee River. The freighter passed through the opened bridge and the Canadians was ngnt be hind. Apparently the bridge operator didn't spot the excursion ship and started closing the swing-span. The captain blew five blasts on the ship horn, then threw the big craft into reverse. It was too late. The ship slammed into the side of the bridge. The second and third decks were smashed from the prow back to the superstruc ture bulkheads enclosing the dance floor and the inside recrea tion areas. The Canadians has a capacity of 2.270 passengers. It was about a third filled. There was no panic Oregon School Bus Drivers Will Need Special License Every school bus driver in Ore gon will be required to have a special school bus driver's license by November 1. Department of Motor Vehicles director James r . Johnson said today. The slepped-up school bus safety program is a result of the need for stricter regulations, Johnson said. The program gained impetus when near the end of the last school year, a school bus driver died of a heart attack and his bus careened off a mountain road shortly after unloading about so children. Prospective drivers must also be able to demonstrate the ability to operate any properly equipped vehicle. A type of in-service training pro gram for school bus drivers has also been set-up. The written examination consists of a questionnaire covering motor ehicle and chauffeur laws as well as school bus laws and regulations. Preparation for the written test is use of the driver's and school bus manuals. The new edition of the school bus driver's manual will be off the press shortly, the de partment said. At the conclusion of all other tests, prospective school bus driv ers will be presented wnn pnysi c.il examination forms. Physical examinations may be taken from the driver's family doctor or from a doctor arranged for by the school district or school bus con tractor. ' Results of the physical cxamina- lion will then he forwarded to the State Board of Health for screen ing and those results forwarded to the Department of Motor Vehicles for final action. The special school bus driver's license will expire annually July 1. The physical examination is currently recommended to be taken annually by each driver. Along with the special license, the Department of Education and the Department of Motor Vehicles A ili conduct jointly the in-service training program. Classroom ses sions, currently set for a two-hour minimum, will be held in the vari ous school districts. Methods and procedures for school bus opera tion, traffic laws and regulations, films and visual aids will be pre sented at the training program ses sions by teams of instructors. FRED R.
