MEYERS, purchasing and contracting officer at Kingsley Field, is shown being presented with a $200 cash incentive award by Lt. Col. Raymond A. Thornton, base commander. The award was made for Meyers' out standing performance of duty in the year ended May 15. W. D. Brown, chief classification and wage administrator from Hamilton Air Force Base, California, and Paul R. Arnolds, civilian personnel director at Kingsley, were pres ent during the brief ceremony, which took place in the base commander's office. Meyers, his wife, Jeanette, and their three children, Karen, 4, and Larry and Lyle, four months, reside at 705 Owens Street. BASIN BRIEFS Returned Mrs. Frank Pecoraro and daughter have returned to Keno from a two week trip to Los Angeles where they visited with relatives and friends. The Pecoraros own and operate the Rodonna Grocery and Tavern in Keno. Burned The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Olthoff, Keno. burned to the ground last Monday after noon. The house was covered by Insurance. The Olthoffs and their two children are staying with Ol thoffs brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Anderson in Keno. Visitor Lizzie Gray, Oakridge, Is a visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Puckett in Keno. Mrs. Gray is Mrs. Puckett's aunt. Vacation Kenny Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Anderson, Keno, has returned home from a three week vacation with relatives and friends in Coos Bay. Keno Overnight guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Owen In Keno were Mr. ane Mrs. Frank Walthers and daughter, Kay, of Little Rock, California. In Keno Kathy and Jan Puck ett. daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Puckett, Klamath Falls, spent a two week vacation with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Puckett, Keno. Shevlin Picnic The annual Shevlin picnic will be held at Shev lin Park. Bend, on Sunday, Au gust 3. This will be an all day picnic and everyone is asked to bring his own lunch and table service. Returned Mr. and Mrs. Mar vin Michael have returned to their home in Dairy after attending the Oregon State Postmasters Conven tion in Medford. To Idanha Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boroughs, Dairy, left Monday morning for Idanha, Ore gon, for a week's visit with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffers Ledeman. From Lakevlew Mr. and Mrs. Byron M. Welch and their grand son, Michael Lamon, Lakeview, were recent guests at the home of the Welch s grandmother, Mrs Sarah Michael in Dairy. To Grants Pass Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jones of Dairy were week end guests at the home of rela tives in Grants Pass. Guest Mrs. Sarah Michael, Dairy, spent the weekend in Klam ath Falls at the home of her son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. Hoefler and family. At Home Willard "Mac" Mc-' Culloch is now at home in Mer rill convalescing satisfactorily from recent eye surgery. New Home - Construction of the future home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilson and daughters was begun earlier this month. The new Wilson home is located one and a half miles northwest of Merrill. Story Hour Children of the Merrill vicinity are reminded thai another story hour program will be held in the library room of the Merrill Recreation Hall on Mon day, July 28, at 2 p.m. The pro gram is sponsored by the Merrill Parent-Patron Association. Leaves Hospital Jack McAul liffe. well known cattleman of Fort Klamath and Northern California has been released from. St. Vin cent's Hospital in Portland where he recently underwent major sur gery. Mrs. McAulitfe has been in Portland during her husband's ill ness, and they are now staying at a Portland hotel. Their sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McAuIiffe and Mr. and Mrs. Pat rick J. McAuIiffe. all of Fort Klam ath and Cottonwood, California, have been -in Portland this week visiting their parents. Nod Given On Space Engine WASHINGTON AP The Air Force has been given the go ahead to build a rocket engine powerful enough to send a manned satellite into space. As a first step, the Defense De partment said a contract had been given the Rocketdyne Division of North American Aviation to con struct a million-pound-thrust rock ct engine. The Pentagon said an engine of this type could be used to send up a manned satellite weighing about 20,000 pounds. Defense offi cials said it also could be em ployed to fire a vehicle weighing 5.000 pounds on a flight to another planet.
