CLIFFORD CASE of Klamath Agency, a member of the

on a road-building project on the Klamath Reservation.
Twelve miles of new road starting at the town of Sprague
River and continuing east along the base of the tableland,
on the north side of the river, and terminating at a point
about four miles north of Beatty are now under construc
tion. When this picture was taken, the survey was being
made to set stakes for fences on either side of the road
right-of-way to keep stock off the road.

cowboys in the nation, the bull
riding entries are not far behind.
Three stars to watch in these con
tests, among a number of other
outstanding entries, are Joel Sub
lette, Bob Maynard and Buddy
Peak, who finished fiflh. sixth and I
seventh, respectively, last year in!

ship standings.
Sublette, whose home is in Tuc
son, Arizona, started in rodeo at
Douglas, Arizona, in 1!48, and is;

JOEL SUBLETTE

He says his top thrill was win
ning the bull riding in his home
town in 1B52. Now in his late
twenties. Sublette plans on rodeo
as a full time occupation for sev
oral years to rome. His wife,
Kathleen, is a trick rider, and the
couple spends most of their time
on the road during the top of the
season.
Sublette is currently 10th in the
bull riding standings.
Maynard, from San Diego, staa
cd rndeoing while still in his teens
He first hit the bull riding top
ten in 1952. and has stayed there
almost constantly since.
Like Sublette. Maynard is now
In his late twenties. He rodeos the
year around, and for the moment
has no other plans. He is also
entered for the oulldogging at the
Klamath Basin Celebration.
Peak started rodcoing when he
was really young, at 13, and
when he was 15 he won a day
money at New York. Now 24. he
measures 6 feet I, and calls Tucson
home.
