SATURDAY NIGHT'S ROUNDUP DANCE will bring Hurshel Clothier and his Oklahoma Travelers to Klamath Falls for their initial appearance in the Northwest. The Travelers have been organized for 10 years, but they are so well known in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas that they have kept busy in that area. Their music is modern western swing with a good program of current popular tunes. The band records for Hu-Se-Co. Satur day's 10 to 2 dance at the Old Armory will also feature Lefty Friiiell, Freddie Hart and Little David who are among the nation's top western stars. , OTI Dean Talks To Farm Women Frank Stanko, dean of men at Oregon Technical Institute, spoke on the "Financial Needs of Stu dents At OTI," July 18 before members of the Klamath County Farm Bureau Women. His topic covered the financial needs of the average student and compared the value of scholar ships to a student loan fund. The loan fund, the speaker said, is of far more benefit to the student than a scholarship. Farm Bureau women here have established a student loan fund for use at OTI and are working out plans to raise money for the fund. The first undertaking will be the dressing of dolls to be ready for a doll bazaar before Christmas. Assistance is being sought from high school girls, alumni of OTI, parents ot alumni or other inter ested persons in dressing the dolls to be provided by members of the Farm Bureau Women. (AP) - A woman who says she represents 300 descendants of early Califor nia financier Mark Hopkins said last night the group plans to file a claim for Yerba Buena Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Mrs. Estelle Latta of Durham, N.C., said the group also has re- corded a notice of interest in about 500,000 acres in Sacramento, Placer and Alameda counties. The land belonged to the Central Pa cific Railroad, of which Hopkins was part owner. j Mrs. Latta claims to be a great- grandniece of Hopkins. She is the! author of "Controversial Mark Hopkins" and "The Great Ras cal," books about Hopkins' activities. Hopkins joined Charles Crocker, Collis P. Huntington and Leland Stanford to form the Central Pa cific, the Western link in the first transcontinental railroad. Yerba Buena Island is the mid way point of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge. Inspector Foils Bank Robbery SAN FRANCISCO (AP)-Police Inspector Mike Dower was in front of the Bank of America day and night branch when his radio blared: "Bank robbery at Bank of America day and night branch." Just then a man ran out, pur sued by two bank employes. Wilh- tn two mocks the employes caught Fred Ortiz, 28, who had a paper bag containing $6,240 Dower followed in his patrol car and hustled Oritz to jail. The prisoner was charged with sus picion of armed robbery. White Horse Picnic Slated For July 27 MOUNT SHASTA John L. Brown, former resident of the White Horse Lumber Camp of the McCloud River Company, has an nounced that the annual White Horse picnic at Burney Falls would Be held Sunday. July 27. There will be a picnic dinner served at the state park camp grounds, end all former residents of While Horse are invited to at tend. It is staged for 1 p.m. White Horse was one of the famed lumber camps of three dec ades ago.
