Two sources said an al tempt actually was made last month to shduct 47-year-oli ex-King Talal. They said guards stymied the would-he abductors. However, a high-ranking Tur kish official said there was no ac tual kidnap attempt. He said the guards were strengthened 20 dnjs ago after a report of a kidnap plot. Another source said one of two leaders of the reported plot iden tified only as an Arab lied the country and the other now is un der surveillance here. Humors sweeping Istanbul say the plotters wanted to spirit Talal out of Turkey and set him up as a rival to his pro-Western son's reign.
