July 6-11 inclusive. Mrs. Blanche Pe Iroff and Mrs. Kathleen Ward. represented the Klamath Falls tun as delegates. Mrs. Isabelle rixner and Betty 0 Leary were isitors. Approximately 3.500 women were present (or the business ses sions held in the Seattle Civic Auditorium. All 49 states, includ ing the newest. Alaska, p 1 u ! Hawaii and Puerto Rico were rep resented. Important legislation during the meeting included the passing of the measure to hold national annual conventions and to discontinue the practice of holding regional and biennial conventions, as in the past. This new ruling will become effective in I960. Philadelphia was chosen as host city for the nation al convention that year. The recommendation that all BPW clubs, on both local and na tional levels, work together to in troduce legislation requiring uni formity of traffic signals and high ways signs throughout the United States, was unanimously endorsed by the delegates. Lassini takes several digs at Parisian designers and those in the United States who copy any of their "ridiculous" fashions. He is opposed to any design which obliterates "feminine allure by camouflaging it under the guise of a balloon, a reference to one popular silhouette from abroad. "Anything that lakes away from the contours of the body must be condemned as a short-lived fad." said the designer in a recorded talk for use with the opening of his Fall collection. Cassini is one of 30 designer members of the couture group of the New York dress institute previewing new fashions for visiting reporters this week. I feel there is as much talent here as abroad." said Cassini whose own special knack is in clothes with both elegance and earthy appeal. Very few French designers can design for their own trade so they are trying to impress the Ameri can market," he added. "What I didn't like about the French designs was: the body of the woman was not in evidence, and styles were inspired by time past . . .like copying the design of an old car when a new car is being created . . ." McMurry Construction Company in the amount of $587. (H6 for the construction of the new Weed High School, Dr. Jere E. Hurley, district superintendent, said recently. Construction on the Weed school started Monday, July 14. as the contract papers and the bond have already been filed, Dr. Hurley also said. The contractors have one year to complete the school. The Weed High School is the fifth and last of the district's state aided building projects to get un derway. The Yreka and Butte Val ley high school projects are near ing completion and will he ready (or the ensuing year. The new McCloud High School has been un der construction for the past two months and rapid progress is be ing made on this building. The new Mount Shasta High School got underway a few weeks ago and most of the excavation and foundation has been com pleted, as well as 35 per cent of the classroom walls. In addition to the above stated aided projects, the district built entirely from its own funds gymnasium and three-classroom unit for the Happy Camp High School, which was occupied at the beginning of the school year, and a new eight-room unit for the Tule lake High School which was occu pied for the school year 1956-57.
