Jt'LY lfi. mi Reason To Believe Natural Cancer Defense Existing NEW YORK (L'PII There is reason to believe that natural de fenses against cancer exist, ac cording to a report released to day by the Sloan Kettering Insti tute for Cancer Research. The report is a review of re cent scientific findings and con tinuing investigations into the na ture of these natural defenses and the way they work. rrom this work there seems hope admittedly still remote of cancer prevention, of simple accurate diagnostic tests, of com binations ol immunization with chemotherapy, surgery and radia tion, the report said. The report cited as one of the most important findings the dis covery in cancer cells of cytohpin H. an unusual chemical which may make possible the develop ment of a diagnostic test for can cer. Researchers are trying to find out if early human cancer regular ly produces cytohpin H and re leases it into the bloodstream If it does, a diagnostic test for Son-ln-Law Buys Hotel mass screening for cancer would become a reality. It is believed that better methods for detecting cancer would alone more than double the cure rate. The existence in healthy persons of natural defense mechani'-ms against cancer was evidenced by research at the Ohio Slate Pen- itentiary, the report said, (.onvict volunteers received implants of cancer tissue in the research. It was shown that well persons can reject implants of human cancer tissue while patients with far advanced cancer cannot, hec ond implants of cancer cells were rejected by the well convicts even faster than the first implants. The report said this research showed that two types of natural defense exist an innate defense in the well person and a second which, like defense against infec tious diseases, is stimulated by exposure to the disease-causing cells. The report said that in studies in animals, another group of re searchers showed that natural de fenses against cancer can be stim ulated artificially. They did this by injecting into mice cancer implanted material called zymo san, which gradually dissolved the cancers and caused them to dis ti-im.ca.inm, OREGON'S N. W. The Klamath Falls show is one of 31 Oregon events being advertised by Blitz in far places as part of that company's "Oregon Bandwagon" campaign to bring people to Oregon and to stimulate interest in the state prior to the Oregon Centennial in 1959. This is believed to be the first time any Oregon firm has gone so far outside its trading area to boost a civic event in Oregon. Blitz has bought space on billboards in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas to advertise Oregon. The billboard campaign is the third step in this year's program and others will follow, according to W. W. Wessinger, president of the 102-year-old brewing company.
