But after swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at Gal veston, viewing the Grand Canyon in Arizona and seeing many other sights as far as Louisiana, the girls decided that Oregon was the best place to live. Mona's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chenoweth, 1654 Portland Street, ac companied the girls. Beverly is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. Clawson of 2021 Homedale Road. Phone Company Rates Said 'Discriminatory' By UPI WASHINGTON (UPD- United Press International, intervening in behalf or the newspapers and ra dio stations of the United Stales told the Federal Communications Commission Tuesday lhat interim increased rales for private line teleprinter communications ser vices were "palcntly discrimina tory" against press customers. Such increases havo been pro posed by the American Telephone and Telegraph Co. UPI quoted ATT figures lhat the effect of their proposed tele printer service tarilf revisions would be to increase charges to the press by 48 per cent, to com mercial customers by 3H per cent, and to government customers by only 27 per cent. United Press Inlernalinnal was the only news organization to an pear on behalf of the press and the broadcasters. In a 15-page document filed wilh the FCC, UPI requested the com mission to deny a .July 7 petition of the ATT. The ATT petition had requested the commission either to rescind a June 25 order for n $5,700.0110 annual reduction in pri vate line telephone charges or, al ternatively, to approve the filing of increased rates for teleprinter grade private line services. ATT had submitted a schedule ot such increased rates on June 20, as n ' basis for discussion. The UPI document said: "It Is the position of UPI thai any such rale adjustments in the teleprinter grade services as pro posed would be unlawlul. unreas onable and patently discrimina tory against press customers, in cluding UI'I, and, therefore, could not lawlully form the hasis ot any interim rate adjustments without substantial and drastic revisions thereto. . . . The proposed increase in rales for the services which are heavily used bv press cus tomers, including UPI. are so shocking and unreasonable on their lace as to suggest a enm plele disregard of the elfect upon that class of customers.
