MONDAY, JULY 14. 1958 HERALD AND NEWS. KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON PAGE THREE 9SSBB9S9 Archbishop Hints It May Be God's WillThat Man End Race With H-Bombs LONDON (UPDTV r.onffr... F. Fisher, the archbishop of Can terbury, said today it may be ' God's will that mankind be de itroyed by nuclear weapons. Emergency Hospital To Be Given , Klamath County Civil Defense facility is due to receive a 200 bed, portable emergency hospital from Slate of Oregon Civil Defense : office in Salem. The hospital, said Civil Defense Director Buster Gordon, will be et up in a school at Gilchrist, which is on one of the routes that would be used for evacuation if disaster struck here. Gordon said the hospital, which , Is being received gratis, will have 200 folding cot-type beds. It will also have its own electric generat ing facilities, water pumps and all . needed medical facilities, such as operating tables, drug storage cab inets, etc. The unit is due to arrive here any day via truck and trailer. Gordon was recently reappointed county civil defense director by the county court. He served last year with three assistants who will continue with him in the 1858-59 fiscal year. They are Irwin Searles, Fred Barmore, . and Jim, Baker. The director's salary of $100 monthly is divided among Gordon and his three assistants for oper ating expenses, Gordon said. Dr. Fisher made the comment in a book "The Fearful Choice; A Debate On Nuclear Policy" published today. The author is historian Arthur Toynbee. The Anglican Church leader. one of 22 churchmen quoted by loynnee. cited the 34th Verse of Ihe Sixth Chapter of Matthew: Be not anxious for the things of tomorrow; the morrow can take thought for its own troubles. Sufticient unto the day is the evil thereof." 'For all I know." the arch bishop said "it is within the pro vidence of God that the human race should destroy itself in this manner. There is no avidence lhat the human race is to last forever and plenty of Scripture to the contrary effect. Suffering entailed by nuclear war would be ghastly in Us scale, he said, but one must remember that each person can suffer only so much! And I do not know that the men and wo men affected would suffer more than those do who day by day are involved in some appalling disaster. NOT GUILTY I' Wendell J.
