I he wide-open spaces of combina tion rooms are beautiful to behold, but they pose problems. How can the home maker give these areas the feeling of separate rejoins with identities all their own? It's simply a matter of arranging furniture or using screens, shutters, or counters at the invisible boundaries. In a living-dining room, a chest or sofa at a home-furnishings consultant diagonal or right angle to a wall can turn the trick. In an open-plan kitchen, a breakfast bar-work counter can set apart the dining section. As the pictured settings indicate, there are countless ways to treat multipurpose rooms. And with such a variety of dividers at hand, it's easy to chart room spaces for more gracious living in the modern mood. I. A contemporary chest atop a long bench marks the place where entrance hall ends and living room begins. Its capa cious interior holds a radio, hi-fi equipment, and records. 2. Shoji screen at left is a decorative way of separating this dining area from the ad joining living room. The ac cent is picked up in a window wall above cabinet grouping. . 3. At right angle to wall, a combination work counter and breakfast bar solves problem of the open plan by dividing kitchen work area and dining room of a modern ranch house. l lIMUJ, Mjpjll "1 He m4: a a ,. r ; Now Easier, surerprotection for yojr m(iate, marriage problems j Tested by doctors. . jA ;?: ' trusted by women ffCjJM pf ?
