Photo by Reevees, Dorris Memorial Day Rites Held DORRIS The annual Memor ial Day services, sponsored by Hie Butte Valley VFW Auxiliary 6! 1 4 4. were held around the me morial shaft on the Dorris City Hall lawn. The Invocation and the benedic tion were pronounced by the Rev. H. G. Gentry of the Freewill Bap- tist Church of Dorris! and the aux iliary prayer was read by the aux iliary president. Mrs. Vivian Wil son. Myrtle Fenwick, chaplain of the 20 th district, gave the memor ial reading. A speech in honor of. the war dead was Riven by Ihc mayor of Dorris, Hob Edgar, and the serv ices wero directed by Commander Al Rurby of Macdorl. Taps were played hy Martcl Sundkvist. The firing squad con sisted of Bob Carnini, Martcl Sundkvist and Aidan Fenwick. The services followed a parade led hy Mayor Kdgar and Mrs. Mae Dciler, a Gold Star mother from Macdoel. Mark Vclena, 3-year-old son of Mrs. Bonnie Valena. dressed as Uncle Sam rode on the front of the mayor's car. A poppy - decorated float carried the Buddy Poppy Queen Alice Melntyre and her court, Princess es Sharon Comer, Judy Burnett end Alice Nunnemaker. Other highlights of the parade were children riding decorated bi cycles: several model T Fords, with Iheir occupants appropriately dressed: and members of the Saddle Clubs riding in formation. DKG Holds Final Meet The last spring meeting of Alpha Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma was held May 1H with a dinner meet ing at the Pelican Party Room. The collect for the meeting was Riven hy President Yelma Ten nery who also spoke briefly on the expansion program of the or ganization. Music was provided hy Connie Hall and Carolyn Ohenchain. The state convention of Alpha Rho was hrld in Portland May 9 and in and was attended hy Ren bill Klliott. Velma Tennery. Chris line Murray. Isabelle Hrixner, Mahle Mumble and Olive Wilson. Mrs. Kllintt, vice president of the state organization, will nttend the international convention at Min neapolis August 13, 14. 15 and lb.
