NORTHSIDE GARDEN' CLIB Members of the Northside Gar den Club will sponsor a day-long "coffee hour, at the home of Mrs. Glen Ferguson. 1010 Lake shore Drive on Thursday, June 12. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Purpose of the party is to raise funds to help buy a power lawn mower for the park in Pelican City, a project of the Northside Garden Club. Members are developing the park as a playground for children. Refreshments will be served In the beautiful garden at the Fer guson homo. Ail garden club mem bers in the Klamath Basin are In vited to attend. Paula Friday Wins McCloud Scholarship McCLOUD Paula Friday. Mc Cloud High School senior and daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Friday, of McCloud, was awarded a $100 scholarship at the school of her choice at the McCloud High School Eraduation exercises June 5. The McCloud Womans' Club made the award, an annual event. Mrs. Eddie Glover made the presenta tion. This is the second scholarship won by Paula this year, the other being a $200 award from Local 6-84 International Woodworkers of America, AFL-CIO. of McCloud. ' BASIN BRIEFS New Phone Book Shows Gain In Local Listings A close look at Klamath Falls new green-cover telephone direc tory reveals population continues to gam here. In the June, 1958 book al-1 most completely distributed now there are 364 white pages de voted to Klamath Falls listings In the June, 1957 book there were 35r pages, or a gain of some 315 listings, most of them by new residents. In the latest bonk, A-l Accredited Bail Bond Service takes away the honors of the first listing under "A" from AAA Auto Association, which was first last year. Richard L. Zwiener of Weyer haeuscr Road, however, retains his distinction of being the last name in the Klamath Falls section in both books. Graduation Mr. and Mrs. Jess Brown of Henley left Thursday morning, June 5, for Los Angeles where they will attend the gradu ation exercises of the College of Medical Evanglestic. Their daugh ter, Norma, will receive a bach ellr of science degree in nursing education. Bark In Stales Richard E. Burnett, sonarman seaman, U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam J. Burnett, Bonanza, recent ly returned to San Diego after a six-month cruise in the Western Pacific with Destroyer Division 52, aboard the radar picket destroyer U.S.S. Duncan. Jumps Sgt. Hershel L. Cossey. 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard S. Cossey, Lakeview. recently par ticipated in a tactical parachute jump conducted by the 101st Air borne Division at Ft, Campbell, Kentucky. Sgt. Cossey, a squad leader in Company E of the di vision's 502nd Infantry, entered the Army in September. 1956. A 1955 graduate of Lakeview High School, he attended Southern Oregon Col lege. Mount Shasta Mrs. Ethal Chit- wood, noble grand of Castle Lake Rebekah Lodge No. 6, has an nounced. that the lodge will hold a potiuck dinner in Howe Hall Fri day evening, June 13. He stayed several days with hut aunt, Mrs. Hap Davidson, there. Salt Lake City visitors at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Fred Rueck. Bonanza, were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Malleck. He is a phar macist in the Army stationed in Utah and will soon receive his dis charge and return to his home at Watertown, Wisconsin. Vacationing for two weeks at Independence. Oregon, are Mr. and Mrs. Bond Tyree and family of Bonanza. Bonanza Mr. and Mrs. Clin ton Childs have returned to their home at Star, Idaho, after spend ing a few days at the Lloyd Hank ins ranch near Bonanza. They came here after attending graduation ex ercises at George Fox College in Newberg when their daughter, La- Vern Hankins, received her degree. Returned G. P. Wu returned to his home at Bonanza after a week in Klamath Valley Hospital recovering from Injuries received in an automobile accident. From California Mrs. Grace Wells Beitz and baby arrived last week by plane from a base in Cal ifornia to visit with Mrs. Beitz' parents. Mr. and Mrs. Howard. Wells, New Pine Creek. Beitz is being transferred to a base in Bos ton. Road Building Richard Law- son has been building logging roads for his father, Truman Law- son, since school was out at Lake- view High School. The Lawson Logging Company has a contract for logs with the Willow Ranch Company. From San Francisco Donald Criss, San Francisco, was a Me morial Day weekend guest of his mother, Mrs. Maggie Criss. and other relatives in Butte Valley, Promoted Lester Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo Johnson, Macdoel, has recently been pro moted to electronics technician second class in the U.S. Navy. He spent Memorial Day weekend with his parents In Macdoel from his base at Mart Island. In Macdoel Pat Wallint Klamath Falls, who is on a 14 day leave from the Navy, was a Sunday until Wednesday guest of Twyla Johnson in Macdoel. Snow Mr. and Mrs. Jim Whitt, Macdoel, drove -to Cougar Butte Sunday, but found a six-foot bank of snow in the middle of the road three miles from Medicine Lake. The road had been cleared that far. They also reported seeing 40 does and four bucks. Child Guidance ' Group To Meet The Child Guidance Advisory Council will hold a noon meeting on Wednesday, June 11, at the Klamath County Health Offices. Mrs. E. A. Geary, chairman, an nounces.
