WINNFIELD STEVENS AND PAUL Cleric, Wife Given Honor MALIN Honored at a farewell parly on May 22 were Mr. H. winnfield Stevens, intern minister of the Malin Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Stevens and son, Paul. The politick dinner was planned by the Mariners Club of the church and held in the social room. Gerry Brown was master of ceremonies for a program with a "Rainbow" theme, each color de picting a special activity of the church in which Mr. Stevens so c a pa b 1 y assisted. Members of the Westminster Fellowship group also took part in the program. At the end of the "Rainbow" was the traditional pot of gold, the fare well gift to the Stevens from their many Malin friends. , , About 100 people were present to 'honor Mr. and Mrs. Stevens who have contributed much to the Ma lin community during their year's stay here. Mr. Stevens will return to the Presbyterian Seminary at ban Anseimo, Calilornia to com plete his course of study. Methodists Set For Meet MONTAGUE - Methodist pas- tors and lay delegates from more than 3S0 churches will pass on pro gram plans and budget for the coming year at the annual session of California - Nevada Methodist Conference in Stockton, June 10 to 15. Those attending from Siskiyou County will be Harold Coleman from Yrcka: Kerr Porter from Etna: James Mahoncy from Fort Jones; Olan Ternll from Duns muir; and Edward llargreavcs from Montague. These are all min isters, but there will be laymen going from each of these churches. Laymen and ministers share equally In voting and planning in the conference. Bishop Donald H. Tippett of San Francisco will preside over the daily business sessions, will give each morning's devotional talk, will preach at a worship service for 5.000 persons on June 15 and will ordain several new ministers. Guest speaker will be Dr. Willis M. Tate, president of Southern Methodist University and widely known educator. He will speak at public programs Wednesday. Thursday and Friday evenings on College of the Pacific campus. Highlights of the business ses sions are expected to include: de cision on a proposed reorganization of the executive staff for program agencies which work among the region's churches during the year. Selection of a new conference lay reader to succeed Dr. Lloyd M. Bertholf of Stockton, who has traveled widely during the past eight years in work with the lay men's movement, and has been dean for years at the College of the Pacific. Action on the annual budget for conference agencies, a total of $1,204,741, up nine per cent from the current budget, the smallest increase proportionately in several years. Major increases are for ministerial pensions, missions, work with college students, launch ing of new churches. The week's special programs will include presentation of winners in a hymn-writing contest, a musical drama on the lite of the Disciple Peter, Laymen's Day on Kridav and Youth Day on Saturday. McNEIL Pastor Slates OTI Speech Baccalaureate services for the 1058 graduating class of Oregon Technical Institute will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 8, in the gymnasium on the campus. Dr. Dallas S. McNeil, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will bring the baccalaureate sermon, speaking on "Quitters Never Win, Winners Never Quit." Organ music prelude, "Ro mance," Debussy and "Prelude," Lyncs, by Susie Williams, will be followed by the processional hymn, "Onward Christian Soldiers;" the call to worship by Bruce Rogers and the hymn, "Sweet Hour of Prayer. The anthem, "The King of Love, My Shepherd Is," Shel ley, will be sung by the choir of the First Methodist Church, to be followed by the scripture lesson, II Timothy 4:1-18. Bruce Rogers and a second anthem, "As Tor rents In Summer." "Marche Romainc," Gounod, will be the organ recessional. Graduation of this years class Is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday following the morning service. More than 300 students will com plete their studies. Dr. McNeil will fill the pulpit in his own church at II a.m. using as his sermon topic, "Let Us Give In to Christian Temptations." Sacrifice Offer Set By Church The local Seventh Day Adven- tist Church will participate in the world-wide sacrificial ottering on Sabbath June 7. Goal of the gen eral conference is to lake up a one million dollar offering at the gen eral conference session to meet in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 21. The conference is in session once in every four years. I he offerings received through out all Seventh Day Adventisl churches on Juno 7 will be added to their offerings, the money to he 'used to further advance the message of a "soon coming Sav ior in new territories.
