Dulles Talks
To Ministers
NEW YORK (AP)-Which
two types of plants is to surviv
the kind that turns out ministers
or the kind that turns out atom
bombs?
This, John Foster Dulles said
last night, is the issue of our time,
perhaps the issue of all time.
The secretary of state addressed
dinner of the Board of Directors
of Union Theological Seminary.
Afterward he and Mrs. Dulles saw
their only daughter, Mrs. Lillias
Hinshaw, receive her bachelor of
divinity degree from the semi
nary.
'Out in Tennessee there is a

Dulles said at the dinner.
Here is a plant which turns
out ministers of the Gospel.
The two seem remote and un

Dulles, a former member of the
seminary board, is the son of a
Presbyterian minister. The secre

Racket Figure
NEW YORK () Vincent (The
Chin) Gieante goes back to his
job as a trucker s helper today,
acquitted of the attempted assas
sination of racketeer Frank Cos-
tello.
After deliberating more than six
hours, an all-male jury freed
gante late last night.
A gunman fired a single shot at
Costello last May in the lobby of
his Central Park West apartment
building. The bullet only creased
the 68-year-old gambler's skull.
Gigante, 30. was charged with at
tempted murder.
The announcement of acquittal

the signal for loud applause by
about 40 relatives and friends of
the hulking, pasty-faced defendant.
Gigante sighed with relief and

An armored ear was reported
to have made seven trips in car
rying the money to the Texas Na
tional Bank, where it was piled 5
feet high in an area of 8 by 10
feet in a counting room.
West, a diabetic, died Dec. 18,
at the age of 54. An inventory
of his estate has not been filed,
but unofficial estimates of its
value run as high as loo million
dollars.
His idiosyncrocies were many.
In addition to handing out silver
dollars, West frequently rode night
patrol with Houston policemen.
His home and his fleet of cars,
which once included 41 Cadillacs,
had elaborate radio equipment.
His home also had disappearing
doors and other trick devices.
Guards were reported to have
crawled under the house to reach
the hidden cellar where the money
was found in cotton bags, paper
sacks, barrels and gallon cans
