girl members of the current high
school graduating class at a ban
quet Monday evening, May 19
The extension department of the.C.
Sunday School of the First Baptist
Church, 414 North Lighth, spon
sored a luncheon for the members,
visitors, and their guests Tuesday,
May 20, in the social hall of the
church.
The extension department has
been organized in many Baptist
churches to meet the spiritual
needs of those who cannot attend
the church services due to illness
age, working on Sunday, or other
reasons which hinder church at
tendance. Mrs. T. A. Shaver. 2211
Main Street, is superintendent of
this department of the Sunday
School. Those who work with her
in the home visitation of the mem
bers are: Mrs. Joe Ivie, Mrs. Alice
Hershberger, Mr. and Mrs. H. O
Robertson, Mrs. John Patterson
and Mrs. J. J. Modisette.
Thirty four people were present
to enjoy the dinner of turkey with
all the trimmings, including straw
berry shortcake, and a program
of hymn singing, three solos by
Mrs. George Casey, and a devo
tional by Mrs. E. M. Causey, "The
God of the Fifth bparrow.
All of the visitors of the depart-1
ment were present. The members
present were Mrs. Russell Akers.

ter, Kathy, Mrs. OUe Christenson,
Mrs. Susie Cullen. Mrs. Minnie
Davis, Mrs. C. C. Ellis, Mrs. Al

This luncheon is the first of its
kind to be held in the church. It
is hoped that it will become an
annual affair for the extension de
partment. Mrs. Shaver, the super
intendent, has also announced that

Melvin L. Derby, director of ed
ucation for the league, will pre
sent the program of "Alcohol Edu
cation in the Public Schools" and
show the recent scientific
films "Far From Alone." and
"One In 20.000." Mr. Derby is a
graduate of the University of Utah
School of Alcohol studies ana
member of the National Institute
for the Prevention of Alcoholism.
He is a guest instructor on alco
hol education for the Oregon public
schools.

morning session and Rev. E. H
Glover will bring on opening de

Church were also recognized.

Mrs. E. M. Causey, president of
the Woman's Missionary Union of
the Klamath Baptist Association,
presided at the presentation serv
ice. Mrs. K. G. West - served as
pianist. Mrs. Kenneth Graham led
in a short devotion based on the
Scripture text, U Timothy 2:15.
Mrs. B. D. Kelly sang a ' special
number just before the presentation
of the girls. The candlelighters for
the service were Sharon ' Cramer
and Sylvia Williams.
The program concluded with the
audience standing and quoting the
Great Commission, as
Matthew 28:18.20, and
found in I led by Rev. K. G. West, pastor of
a prayer'the Stewart Lenox Baptist Church.
