Hostesses for the combination party were Mrs. Lavella Compton, also a first grade teacher at the school; Mrs. Pat Callahan and Mrs. Joe Burch Jr. The clever decorations were the artistic handiwork of Mrs. Char lotte Davis; and entertainment highlight was Mrs. Dorothy Van Orsdel's reading of an original poem about jet planes competing with Doc Mork in baby deliveries. Gift cards were signed by al most 50 friends invited to the com bined birthday celebration and stork shower. THFRF ARF TWO MEMBERS OF THE PARTY who rate -almost as much attention as the bride herself. They are the mother of the bride. and the bridesmaid for maids!. The bride has the say in the matter of dresses her bridesmaids wear. But she usual ly confers with them and defers to them in the final choice, ilt't their money, after all.) The bride's mother has a free hand in the selection of her dress. If she's wise and-or considerate, there will be a pro-shopping discussion with the bridegroom's mother if pos sible. This will keep harmony in the family as well as the wedding picture. The bridesmaids dresses can be chosen from a wide variety of styles and fabrics. Day-length dresses are smart looking and a smart type to buy, because they can be worn for party occasions long after the wedding. Lace for the mother of the bride has nearly always been in favor, and is especially so with today's designers. So it's quite likely to be lace this year, since so many of the smart, slim sheath styles that are handsomely right for the wedding and after, too, are of lac. .. Colors and depth of colors shame the rainbow. Above left, the mother of the bride wears a moss green lace sheath with an interesting waist treatment and a back panel of matching chiffon. The bridesmaid is a pretty picture in a baby doll dress of pale blue organdy trimmed with rows of white val lace. LORA ANN SPIN!.
