Spiritual Strength Stressed
On Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day, Saturday,
May 17, is going to be a little
different this year. An even
fireater stress than ever before
s being put on the fact that part
of our nation's "Power for Peace"
lies in spiritual strength.
In his Armed Forces Day
Proclamation the Commander in
Chief. President Eisenhower, has
directed the secretaries of each of
the military departments to "mark
the day with appropriate cere
monies" and to invite participa
tion by "representatives of all re
ligious faiths in such ceremonies
in order that the interdependence
of our security and the deep and
abiding religious faith of Ameri
cans may be recognized."

Prisoners's Decisions For
Christ Overwhelm Graham
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) Evan
gelist Billy Graham declared to
day he was "overwhelmed" at
the number of San Quentin prison
convicts who made "decisions for
Christ" at a sermon he preached
there.
Four thousand convicts
sprawled in the hot sunshine on
the baseball field Thursday to lis
ten to Graham's sermon. At the
end, 623 came forward to "live
for God in prison.
A spokesman for Graham's
team said it was the largest per
centage of converts ever to
respond at an evangelistic service
anywhere.
"It takes great courage for men
to step out and witness for God
In these surroundings," Graham
laid.
He turned over their pledge
cards to Hie prison chaplain, who
will get in touch with the men to
give them further spiritual gui-
aance.

Guest Series
Bob Harlow, Portland, president
of Global Aids, Inc., will be the
guest speaker at the Bible Baptist
Church. May 18-25. The meetings
will be held every evening, ex
cept Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. Bob
Harlow has specialized in the field
of training Christians to serve the
Lord in the Sunday School and
various parts of the church pro
gram. He also provides education
al helps and visual aid equip
ment to missionaries throughout
the world.
Harlow has recently toured the
Orient preaching the Gospel and
ministering to missionaries in 11
countries, traveling 20,000 miles.
He made this trip at the invita
tion of General and Madame
Chiang-Kai-shek.
The series each evening will In
clude singing, special music, in
teresting incidents from Bob Har
low's travels and a message from
the Bible.
Alcohol Seminar
Set For Monday
A seminar of alcohol education
and the problems of alcoholism
will be held Monday, May 20. un
der the sponsorship of the Klam
ath Falls Ministerial Association
and the Oregon Temperance
League. Sessions ill be held at
First Christian Church at 10 a.m.
and 1:30 p.m. Dr. Titus A. Fruzee.

in the program.

inmates crowded around Graham,
asking him to sign autographs. Af
ter signing about 25 autographs,
Graham said:
'I can't sign any more.

row and spoke to 18 of its 21 con

Prison spokesmen said the 18
"greatly appreciated" Graham's
visit.
Unions Win
Election Spat
WASHINGTON HI Organizers
for the AFL-CIO have won their
fight for an election to seek to
establish their union as bargaining
agent in wage negotiations with
the labor federation.
The National Labor Relations
Board yesterday rejected unani
mously the argument of AFL-CIO
officers that their organizers arc
managerial employes, not entitled
to bargaining rights under the
Taft-Hartley Act.
The board ordered a secret elec
tion within 30 days. AFL-CIO or
ganizers, working out if 23 field
offices across the eou;ry, will
vote on whether th(y wish to be
represented by the Field Repre
sentatives Federation in bargain
ing with their employer, the AFL-
ClO's Department of Organization.
The NLliB ruled that these or
ganizers are not management rep
resentatives of the federation but
are the "production workers" of
the Department of Organization.
The organizers do not make pol
icy, the board held, even though
they have limited authority to bar
gain and sign contracts on behalf
of local unions, to represent the
federation to the public, and to
incur hills in the name of the
AFI.-CIO.
'The hoard has long held that
the authority to sign an agree
ment binding on an employer does
not confer managerial status on
an employe," the NLRB held.
