Thieves Discard
Shoe Samples
LOUISVILLE, Ky. tm - Thieves
stole salesman Bill Meller's
samples again. But, as in the past,
he had little trouble getting them
bark.
Meller sells shoes. His samples
are nearly -200 new shoes all for
the left foot.
For the third time in eight
years, thieves stole shoes Fri
day, then discarded them op-
parently in disgust. Police found
them all three times.

the meeting of the Merrill Parent
Patron Association held Tuesday
afternoon,. March 4, at the Merrill
Elementary School.
Heading the school organization
during the 1958-1959 school year
will be Mrs. Harry Orcm. She
will succeed Mrs. James Lamp-
kins as president. Other newly
elected officers are Mrs. Don Har
ris, first vice president; Mrs. Rob
ert lrotman. second vice presi
dent; Mrs. P. L. Hodges, secre
tary; and Mrs. Hoy Miller, treas
urer. The newly elected officials
will be installed to their respective
posts at the April meeting.
Several future projects were un
der discussion. Earle Swift's sixth
grade won the room count. Fourth
grade mothers served refresh
ments. Following the business meeting,
the senior speech department pre
sented a program they are pre
paring for the senior speech festi
val. The following numbers were
presented: Donna Carson, serious
reading; Norma Ureen, poetry;
Bernie Wolfram, radio script;
Sharon Kaflon, impromptu read
ing: Gloria Cahan, oratory: Jack
Lee. extemporaneous reading
Sara West, humorous reading. The

Grange Slates
Safety Essay
Mavme Cammock, lecturer of
the Midland Grange, has announced
that a highway safety essay con
test sponsored by the National
Grange and the Automotive Safety
Foundation,1 is open to all grange
members under 18.
The national winner, she said,
will receive a $100 savings bond
and an all-expenso paid trip to the
annual convention of the national
grange to be held in Grand Rap
ids. Michigan. November 10 to 19.
She added that there will also
he local, state and regional awards.
Each contestant will submit an
essay of not more than 700 words
on the subject "Community Or
ganizations for Highway Safety."
The deadline for submitting en
tries is May 1.
The lecturer said that the pri
mary purpose of the contest is to
develop a public awareness of the
community's responsibility in de
veloping and encouraging high
way safety programs and projects.

WEED The Weed Girl Scout
and Brownie troops participated
in various activities during their
last meetings. The making of a
Mother's Day project constituted
the activity of the entire meeting
of Girl Scout Troop 37 on Feb
ruary 2fi. Plans for the troop s

Smuaree to be held in Mount
Shasta on March 15 were com
pleted and a review of songs will
be held at this week's meeting.
A total of 50 favors were made
by members of Brownie Troop
82 at the Kehruary 'in meeting
which will be used at the musical
show to be presented by the troop
for the third grade girls and teach
ers of Weed Union Elementary
School.
A drama was presented hy Pa
trol 3 at the Friday meeting of
Girl Scout Troop 69. The entire
troop practiced the routine of the
Irish jig which they will present
at the Singaree.
