Girl Scouts and a member of the Horiion Club at the academy. Lake Court Action Listed LAKEVIEW Perry Ross Huff. Chiloauin. received a sen tence of 90 days in jail and a $300 fine on a drunk driving charge when he appeared before Justice of the Peace O. C. umos in Lane view. Saturday afternoon at ! o'clock. He also received an ad ditional sentence of 30 days and $100 fine on a vagrancy charge. John Edward Crain of Beatty was also charged with vagrancy and received a sentence of. davs and $100. The two men and Lawrence Lee O'Neill of Alturas were picked up by Neil Friday and Wayne Creel, h a k e v l e w city otticers, at o'clock Saturday morning, in driveway at Fourth Street North O'Neill was bleeding profusely . from face lacerations, inflicted by Huff, as the latter admitted to the officers. O'Neill was taken to the Lakeview Hospital where he received treatment lor his wounds, and was then transferred to an Alturas, hospital in care of Modoc County authorities. He refused to sign a complaint against hum, Huff and Crain were on their way home from Reno and picked O'Neill up in Alturas, according to the story told to the officers, but they became involved in an argument at Lakeview. Sheriff Tom Elliott indicated that Huff would be taken to Rocky Butte Jail to serve his sentence. Group Hears Confab Report A speech given recently at the Pacific Cosst Unitarian convention in San Jose, California, by Linus Pauling. American scientist, was reported to the Unitarian Fellow ship of Klamath County hy Mrs. Gilbert Fleet, assisted bv dclpeates to the convention. Hen Kerns and ! .Mrs. Truman Johnson. Pauling presented a petition, signed by 9.000 scientists before the United Nations, urging imme-j diate agreement to stop atomic bomb tests among the nations of' the world. Mis San Jose speech made coast-tu-coasl headlines lor its reply to the recent prticle in Life Magazine, entitled. "Dr. Teller Refutes . 000 Scientists." Dr. Pauling pointed out mislead ing statements in the Life article .ind stated that Dr. Teller excused those statements on grounds that the article was written "to allay the fears of the people." The Social Action Committee of the Congregational Church visited the Unitarian meeting to hear the report on Pauling's speech. A group from the Congregational Church in cluding Rev. and Mrs. M. A. Mc Kinnie, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lambie, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reynolds are making a study of the danger of radioactive fallout to the American people.
