PAGE TEN HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1958 rf 'r'- . v ;. .1 DAVID NELSON Ex-Alturas Man Finishes School Duvid Nelson, formerly of Al turas, will graduate February 9 from the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead, South Lansing, New York, after which he will leave for an assignment in Kansas, where he will serve as a special ministerial representative for Je hovah's Witnesses. Nelson was associated with the Alturas congregation of the Wit nesses for some time before leav ing for the school, and served as an associate minister to William DeCroix, presiding ministerial ov erseer of the Alturas congrega tion. In 1953 Nelson as a dele- sate to the New World Society As sembly of Jehovah's Witnesses, in New York City, which was at tended by ministers from 96 dif ferent lands. His extensive minis terial career led to his being called to Gilead for advanced training. This is the sixth in a series of articles published in cooperation with the Klnma'h Dental Society in observance of National Chil dren's Dental Health Week, Feb ruary 2-8. Don't you think it would be better if we waited until he was a litle older? Children learn fear of the dentist largely from their parents. The lather or mother who threatens a visit to the dentist as punishment for misbehavior is instilling a fear that may color the youngster's altitude on dental health all his life. The first visit to the dentist hould come when the child is be tween two and three years of age, when all his first teeth have appeared. It is important that he view the dentist as a friend so that he will never be afraid of dental care. Most dentists prefer to see youncer children early in the morn ing when the children are wide awake. Youngsters cooperate bet ter when they are not tired. It is also a time of day -when the dental office is usually not loo busy and more time can be spent with the child. Video Users Form Group Most dentists also prefer that the mother stay in the reception room and that she let the dentist do the talking to the child. Periodic dental visits begun at an early age in most cases pre vent serious and complicated den tal defects later. If a child's front tooth is broken or pushed out of place in an acci dent, the child should be taken to the dentist immediately. In smaller children, an acci dent to a front tooth is more likely to push it out of position than to cause it to break. In many cases, it a frunt tooth is pushed up into the gum, it will re-erupt and re sume its former position. For older boys and girls, suc cess in saving an injured tooth, even one that has been knocked out of its socket, is often depend ent upon prompt attention. In conclusion, to help assure lifelong dental health for a child, these are the rules to follow: 1. Brush the teeth immediately after eating, whether mealtime or between meals. 2. Cut down on sweets, especial ly between meals. 3. Have periodic dental care. 4. Drink fluoridated water or have or have a fluoride solution applied to the teeth. Sicily Wi Two ol Italy's most active volcanos, Stromboli and Etna, are erupting but there was no immediate threat to farms and villages around them. Stromboli; on a Mediterranean island north of this Sicilian port, went into action yesterday after almost two years of rest. It sent a small stream of lava hissing down one slope toward the sea. There were occasional explosions. Etna, a 10-700-foot volcano on Sicily north of Messina, has been in a state of intermittent activity for more than four months. Last night was one of its active peri ods, with four or five explosions every minute hurling rocks and ashes 1.000 feet into the air. evislon reception. Each director will obtain as many subscribers from his own district as possible. The total cost of the translator project is estimated to be approxi mately $4,000 with $775 being pledged so far. At least 150 peo ple must subscribe $25 each before the job can be finished according to present estimates, Harris stated.
