M. place Building Up In Montague MONTAGUE According to Beulah Gordon, city clerk, there has been a considerable increase in the construction of new homes, building additions, and remodeling projects in Montague. Figures show that permits to taling $78,955 were issued during las, over S3e,i87 in 1958. One -permit was issued to the Pacific Telephone and Teleeranh Company for $14,000 for construc tion of a new exchange building for Montague. The second com mercial building permit was is sued to -Donald Gordon for con struction of a building where he sells John Deere farming equip ment. The third permit of im portance was issued to the Ar eata Lumber Services, Inc., Sisk iyou Division, for the erection of a new drying shed. There were 10 new homes con structed and many were remodel ed completely. Mrs. Gordon stated that the last special census taken in 1955 disclosed that Montague had 715 residents but believes that it is closer to 800 at present. The city arrives at this figure by mul tiplying the number of water con nections by two and three-fourths. HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON Rainier May Lose Powers MONTE CARLO. Monaco 'UP'1 Prince Rainier III today faced a serious challenge to his abso lute rule of tiny Monaco. Sunday Monegasque electors chose a Na tional Council pledged to clip his powers or resign. Strictly speaking, the Council cannot change the constitution of this 470-acre, tax-free municipal ity. Rainier, 34, and his princess, former American film star Grace Kelly 28, are absolute rulers here. But the council can write con stitutional amendments and bring pressure on Rainier to accept them by threatening to quit. Results from Sunday's election showed that an 11-man anti absolutist majority had been swept into the 18-member Council. The men on the winning ticket were pledged to reform the 1911 constitution and give real, law making powers to the National Council, up to now a sort of rub ber stamp group. Dr. Joseph Simon, 52, is the leader of the "anti-absolutists," whose official title is the "national Union of Independents." He resigned from the Council in 1955, when he wanted to protest the Prince's handling of the crash of Monaco's precious metals bank. Dr. Simon is hardly a radical. But he and his partners want to give Monaco a British-style con stitution instead of the absolute rule it has had for 400 years. Sunday 931 of this principality's male electors went to the polls, and apparently most of them de cided they felt the same way Dr. Simon did. 25 Trade-in For Your Old Water Heater Regordless .of Size, Shape, Model or Condition!
