Study Of U.S. Economic
Structure Slated By Group
WASHINGTON W-A three-year
inquiry into the nation's money
and credit structure was an
nounced today by the Committee
for Economic Development.
The study will be conducted by
an independent, nonpartisan com
mission. The CED, a research organiza
tion of ISO businessmen and edu
cators, said it has received an
initial grant of $500,000 from the

Commission on Money and Credit
will be free from political or spe
cial-interest pressures, CED said
the 9 to IS members will be nom
inated by a selection committee,
named by CED Chairman Donald
K. David.
This committee consists of, 10
heads of research institutions and
colleges, including Arthur F.
Burns, former chairman of Presi
dent Eisenhower's Council of Eco
nomic Advisers, and the presi
dents of Colgate, Cornell, Indiana
and Stanford universities, ana
Amherst College.
As a further assurance of non-
partisanship. CED officials said,
the commission will not be expect
ed to issue its final report until
after the 1960 presidential election.

zation for the plan at the 15th
anniversary meeting ot L.u s
Board of Trustees here today.
He emphasized the commission
will ' work independently or Ch.L,
the Ford Foundation or the gov
ernment," and will appoint its
own research director and staff
"It will be the first full-scale
inauiry into monetary policies
since the Aldrich committee of
Congress began its three - year
study in 1908, David saia in a

The Aldrich committee is cred
ited with having done its spade-
work for creation of the Federal
Reserve system by Congress in

receive their charter for the newly organized group at a dinner meeting in the Camas
Room of the Winema Hotel, Saturday, November 23. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.
Wives of members and others interested in aviation are invited. Talking it over about

Jack Douglass, secretary, Gilbert Smith, Portland, state president of the flying group,

OSC game were Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Wilson of Mulin. The Wilson's
daughter, Rosanne, is a student at
Oregon State College,
Vacationing Mr. and Mrs. John
Giacomini and son Anthony, ac
companied by Mrs. Mamie Giaco
mini, mother of John Giacomini,
Merrill, will attend -the Stanford
California game to be played at
Stanford Stadium, Palo Alto, Sat
urday, November 23. Mrs. Mamie
Giacomini will visit a brother in
San Raphael.

Knowland Airs Senate Plans
EL CENTRO. Calif. UV-Sen.
Knowland (R-Calif) says he will
keep the job of Senate minority
leader during the next session of
Congress despite his entry into the
California gubernatorial cam
paign. Knowland made the statement
in an address to the El Centro
Rotary Club yesterday.
The senator is seeking the Re
publican gubernatorial nomination
and is expected to face Democrat
ic State Atty. Gen. Edmund
Brown in next year's election. In
cumbent Republican Gov. Good
win Knight is seeking Knowland's
Senate seat.
