VFW District 20 Holds Dinner Party In Dorris X.1 FOR FUN AND FESTIVITY, the Lettermen Club members of Henley High School ere "tops" in ideas. There will be high jinks at the Lettermen't Club sponsored carnival in the high school on Saturday, November 16, from 7 to 1 1:30 p.m. including games of skill, food booths and boxing matches. The carnival is open to the public. Money goes for the benefit of the athletic department of the school. Unpacking nonsensical doo-dads are left, Phil Swisher, and right, Bruce Durant, carnival co-chairmen. That noodle-like hand ful coming from wrappings, looks suspiciously like black spiders. DORRIS Members of VFW District 20 attending the dinner provided by the host group at the Butte Valley High School on November 3. were welcomed by Mike Branham, junior class president. The meal was prepared by jun ior class mothers including Mrs. Vivian Mclntyre. Mrs. W. R. Ken naston. Mrs. Martel Hamilton, Mrs. Vivian Wemple, Mrs. Annie Goldbar, Mrs. Berniee Middaugh, Mrs. Roy Foelc and Mrs. Sam Lyons. Kaye Kennaston and Bev erly Houston greeted guests at the door. The dinner was served to VFW members and members of the posts' auxiliaries with Butte Val ley Post and Auxiliary No. 5944 as host. Proceeds of the dinner were turned over to the junior class treasury. Among special guests attending the Dorns meeting were two na SHOWER NEW PINE CREEK-A "pound shower was held earlier this month for the Rev. and Mrs. J. R. Swinney, new minister of the New Pine Creek Baptist Church. About 100 persons attended, bringing all kinds of food packages. Games provided entertainment in the church basement for the balance of the evening. tional officers. W. D. Others attending included Bob Arrasmith of Central Valley, Redding Post 1934 and Charles Stier. commander of District 20, with Burney Post 5689, who con ducted the VFW sessions. There are 15 posts in District 20 but only seven were represent ed. Those were posts of Redding, Yreka, Mount Shasta, Burney, Weed, Weaverville and Butte Valley. The District 20 auxiliaries meet ing was conducted as & separate meeting by Harriet Houston of Yreka Post 3913, district senior vice president, in the absence of the district president, Vena Gil mer, of Macdoel, Post 5944. Vivian Wilson of Dorris. Dis trict 20 secretary, reported that handmade laprobes to be used in veterans hospitals for wheel chair patients have been t'u r n e d in. Mount Shasta post turned in 12, Butte Valley, 10, Yreka, seven and Scott Valley, two. Mrs. Wil son also announced that the aux iliaries in the district will spon sor appearances of the Erwin Me morial Blood Bank car at least once this year.
