Mortuary Hit

LOS ANGELES W After a be

mistaken for a mourner remained
behind.
Police said the man then pulled
a gun, tied mortuary manager
Ralph Statts and two employes,
and escaped with $75 yesterday.
Statts told officers the gunman

Scandal Case Deal Related
HOLLYWOOD (UP)-An agree
ment has been reached whereby
Confidential and Whisper maga
zines will revise their editorial
policy in exchange for dismissal
of criminal libel charges against
individual defendants.
The magazines, affiliated cor
porations and Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Meade, West Coast information
agents for the publications, were
tried last fall but a jury dead
locked after a lengthy trial and
was dismissed.
Under the agreement reached
between the attorney general's of
fice and defense attorney Arthur
Crowley, charges against the
Meades would, be dismissed and
the magazines would stand trial
on the basis of the transcript of
their earlier trial.
As part of the agreement, Con
fidential Publisher Robert Harri
son will publish advertisements
in New York. Chicago and Los
Angeles newspapers announcing
the change in format of the mag
azine under which it will not pub'
lish expose stories about
personalities.
