BASIN BRIEFS Yreka According to an an nouncement released by Mrs. Richard Daley, president of the King's Daughters, the group has completed its plans to hold a rum mage sale on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week at the old Sprouse-Reitz Store in Yreka from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Anyone wishing to contribute any rummage items may contact Mrs. Daley. Mrs Harold Coleman, or any member of the King's Daughters. Trip Mrs. Ada Johnstone re turned home on Saturday evening, October 12, from a two weeks trip to southern California and Colo rado. Mrs. Johnstone visited a few days with each of her sis ters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Williams in Pasadena and Mrs. Katherine Greer at Newport Beach. She then boarded a train for Denver Colorado, spending a week with her sister, Mrs. Charles Bauer. New Homes Two new homes are being built in Montague on Ninth Street, one the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wendt and daughter and the second home that of Mr. and Mrs. James Ready and family. A third house nearine completion is on 15tn ana Webb, being built by Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher to be occu pied by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Feyl. Returned Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smitendorf have returned to their home in Montague after spending several days visiting with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Smith of Alturas. Smith had just returned from the hospital following the removal ot a cataract from one of his eyes. He was the former owner and op erator of the Shell Gas Station in Montague, and after selling out, he and Mrs. Smith operated their ranch located just out of Monta gue. Since the Smitendorf's arri val home, he has been hospital ized at the Siskiyou County Gen eral Hospital. McCloud District Fire Total Given McCLOUD Twenty-five light ning and 13 man caused fires have been brought under control in the McCloud ranger district dur ine the past fire season. Three were listed as caused by lumber- ine operations, two by unattended campfires, five miscellaneous causes and three by emiaren play ing with matches. A total of 8.43 acres were burned. This compares favorably with 70 fires for the 1956 season, when 153.5 acres were burned. The dis trict had 14 man-made fires and 56 lightning fires last year, reports Jack Prevey. USFS district ranger. HOBBY CLASS , An adult hobbyist class in wood working is being offered weekly from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at Klamath Union High School in the woodworking shop. The class extends for 10 weeks, and a small fee is charged for use of the equipment. There is still room lor six or seven men to enter. Fur ther inlormation may be obtained from the high school office. TU 2-4446. The second class will be Tuesday, October 22. Hunters Returning late Sun day night, October 13, from a hunting trip were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Akins and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Swain. The Akins' had left last week on Wednesday for the Lava Beds National Monument area, and the Swains joined them on Friday. They got a buck. DAV Members of Dewey Powell Unit No. 12, DAV and Aux iliary, will have a social get-together in the KC Hall, October 18. A potluck dinner will be served at 7:30. Auxiliary mem bers are asked to bring salad or pie. The chapter will have a reg ular business meeting after he dinner. Visitors Dr. Dieffendorf and Howard Booth arrived Thursday nigni trom Bremerton, Washing ton, to spend the weekend at the home of Mrs. Alice Carlon in Summer Lake. Surgery Mrs. George Car lon and children left Summer Lake Sunday for Portland where she will have surgery performed on her feet this week. The boys will stay with their Grandmother Knopf. Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Dean Harris of Bend are staying in the Calkin's cabin in Summer Lake for an indefinite time. They are visiting friends, and Harris is hunting deer and birds while here. Mrs. Irene Wlutaker and Mrs. Beatrice O'Connor were ad visers for the group of six stu dents. They returned home Satur day evening. Returns Mr. and Mrs. Verne McClellan and Mrs. James Rob inson have returned home from San Francisco where Mrs. McClel lan was hospitalized for several days. She will return to the Bay City shortly for more hospitaliza tion. Oakland Visitors for a few days at the home of her broth er, F. W. Brown of Langell Val ley, are Mr. and Mrs. George Thurman. Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Billy Custer and two daughters visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dye and his mother, Mn. Bob Davidson, all of Bonanza. Pneumonia Mrs. Ernie Vinson of Bonanza is in Hillside Hospital suffering from pneumonia.
