OCTOBER 15. 1957 Talented Vocalist From KF To Sing In Opera Program A talented young Klamath Falls vocalist, Gail Nerscth, sophomore at Stephens College, has been named to the only student lead to sing ii the tragic opera, "Lucia D: Lammermoor," Donizetti. It will be sung tonight at the col lege. This is one of two operas produced each year by the opera workshop at Stephens in which stu dents support professional singers. Rolls for students are assigned on a competitive basis to those enrolled in the opera workshop where they receive training in stage movement and character portrayal, learning complete rolls. Lucia is to be sung by Marjoric Gordon, leading soprano at New York s City Ccnlcr, whose achieve' ments include recitals, opera, mu sical comedy and her own radio show. Gail, who also sings soprano, will sing the role of Alice, com panior to Lucia. Edgardo will be Jim Hawthorne, whose tenor voice and dramatic style is known to audiences and critics. He has ap peared with many of the nation's opera companies and scored suc cesses in several Broadway mu sicals, including 16 months as a member of the original cast of "South Pacific. Loney Jr. ana last summer spent five weeks studying at the University of Washington with Charles W. Lawrence. She will return to the University of Washington for fur ther training upon completing her second year at Stephens.. Mickey Rooney's Son Recovering From Polio HOLLYWOOD I - The 11-year- old son of actor Mickey Rooney is reported recovering from an attack of bulbar-polio. Timmy Rooney, who lives with the actor's ex-wife, Mrs. Betty Jane Baker, was stricken Sept.
