PAGE THIRTEEN
PEGGY CARSON of Merrill, Klamath Basin Potato queen,

D. Holmes in appreciation of his proclamation setting Oc
tober as Annual Potato Chip Month. Also present at the
ceremony was Ben Davidson, administrator of the Oregon
Potato Commission, Salem. The proclamation points up the
importance of the fast-growing potato chip industry as a
major outlet for the Oregon potato crop.
CANDY dresses up many desserts, but the National Con
fectioners' Association has come up with a new one:
Candy Coated Almond Pie. The pie itself features crushed
candy coated almonds (you can choose your colors to get
the desired shade, or add a little pink or green food
coloring) and the filling is made and poured into a baked
pie shell. -
CANDY COATED ALMOND PIE

pie, as shown! More than that,

11 teaspoon salt
cup crushed candy-coated al

ANCIENT ART
Linen dates back about 5.000
years. It has been recovered from
Egyptian tombs. Phoenician trad
ers marketed the cloth in Medi
terranean ports. Greek. Hebrew
and Egyptian priests wore linen
garments as a symbol of purity.
Since the days of the Romans,
when Caesar's legions swept
northward and the settlers that
followed introduced flax into the
lowlands, Belgium has been the
flax center of the world.
