Wal ler Norblad, Slayton Republican, and Edith Green. Portland Demo crat, appear certain victors in their reelection campaigns. But the other two members of the state's congressional delega tion are engaged in bitter fights against the same opponents they defeated two years ago. Rep. Harris Ellsworth, Roseburg Republican and former editor, first was elected to Congress in ' 1942, when the Fourth (Southwest Oregon I District was created. His opponent is Charles 0. Porter, Democratic lawyer from Eugene, who is waging an intensive cam paign on the public power and Al Sarena mining issues. - Ellsworth, who never has cam paigned much, is working harder this time as he seeks an eighth term. As the dean of Oregon's congressional delegation, he is emphasizing his seniority in the House and his membership on the powerful House Rules Committee. Norblad always! 1 farm Prices r Take Nosedive WASHINGTON im - The Agri culture Department reported Tues day that farm product prices de clined nearly 1 per cent between mid-September and mid-October. This, was the fourth consecutive month that the general farm price level has dropped. The mid-October prices were still 2.15 per cent above those of a year ago, but about 27 per cent below the record high 'reached in February, 1951. , Farm prices as a whole nor mally decline during this period, reflecting increased supplies of farm products provided by the harvest season and the heavy marketing of livestock. The October decline was expect ed to add fuel to the fires of the campaign for farm votes in next week's national elections. Lower prices for meat animals, corn, potatoes, poultry, eggs and cotton more than offset higher prices received for dairy prod ucts, some vegetables, cottonseed and wheat. Prices paid by farmers for goods and services used in family living and in production held un changed between mid-September and mid-October. The relationship between prices received by farmers and those paid by them put the farm price level at 82 per cent of parity.- Ellsworth defeated Porter 70.695 predominant In Eastern Oregon. . Coon seeks a third term. Coon's opponent is Al Ullman, Baker real estate man who has fought for construction of a fed eral dam in Hells Canyon. Coon's Second (Eastern Oregon I District remains strongly Demo cratic. However, he defeated Ull man two years ago 43,731 to 39, 475. Coon and Ullman probably have worked harder than any other can didates for office, in Oregon. . The power and farm issues are has won by overwhelming mar gin. Mrs. Green, in the district em bracing Multnomah County, first was elected two years ago, and thus broke up the Republican mo nopoly in the state's House dele gation.
