Effects Of Credit Detailed
At Local Merchants Meet
"The things that determine the
amount of credit and loans that
can be set up in any community
are the policies of the Federal Re
serve Bank and the United States
Treasury," Joseph W. Mercer, lo
cal representative of West Coast
Life Insurance, told representatives
of Klamath Falls business firms
Monday evening. Mercer was guest
speaker at the 24th annual banquet
of Merchants Credit Service, Inc.,
at the Willard Hotel. One hundred
and fourteen members and guests
attended.
In discussing how credit affects
a community. Mercer stated that
during the war there was more
money in circulation than there
were services and goods available.
. Deal Continues
Revival Talks
The Rev. William S. Deal, Sa
lem, Northwest district superinten
dent of Pilgrim Holiness churches,
will continue nightly revival meet
ings at the local Pilgrim Holiness
Church, . 2301 Wantland Avenue,
during the remainder of this week.
Tonight the subject will be fam
ily night. Rev. Deal will present a
10 - point recipe for happiness.
Thursday night he will speak to
the young people at a service dedi
cated to youth, drawing upon his
many years of experience in that
field for his sermon.
Friday night is Friendship Night.
The member of the audience tak
ing the largest number of friends
to the service will win an award.
The series will conclude Sunday

Rev. Deal is an author with a
record of 10 published books. His
current book. The Christian's Daily
Guide, is to be released by the
Baker Book House. The pastor also
writes numerous columns for reli
gious publications.

point of too much money in cir

ouy, mercer said, "so credit has
been somewhat limited as a pro
tection for our economy. Curtail
ment of credit now is no more
strict than it was in 1951 and 1952.
however. More people are using
credit tnan ever before because the
amount of money in circulation
has increased," the speaker de
clared.
Mercer told his audience that
Klamath Falls is fortunate in hav
ing the Merchants Credit Service
because the average community of
less than metropolitan size does
not have an adequate credit rating

fact that Klamath Falls has' no

said.

KUHS drama department.
During the business meeting, the
nominating committee, consisting
of Agnes Green, chairman. Dale
Bleha and Jerry Rhoads, report
ed that A. C. Bailey, Lew Hamblin,
Alfred Collier and Jim Kerns have
been elected directors for two-year
terms.
President Ray Ward presided at1
the meeting and introduced the
guest speaker.
