levy which will appear as one ot
the two city measures on the No
vember 6 general election ballot.
The other city measure appear
ing on the ballot, if passed, would
authorize fluoridation of the Ore

Oregon law, certain funds are pro

used to reduce the policemen's

The request for the additional!

the police department personnel.
It is felt .by those backing the
levy .that if passed the additional
funds could be used to make serv-;,

ing a good caliber of man and in
spiring him to remain in his posi

The present rather high turnover
of policemen with Klamath Falls
force costs the city much more in
the long run than would an in
crease in funds for the depart
ment, proponents uf the levy stale.
Police Chief Hamilton points out
that it costs about ta.OOO to train
a new policeman, and if he doesnt
stay with the force then this re
cruit training goes on and on at
the resulting high cost to the tax
payers of the city.
Although the Klamath Falls de
partment is a modern organiza
tion equipped with most of the po
lice protection devices such as ra
dio, etc., that other departments
of cities of this size have, it is
short due to resignations and oth
er reasons) when it should have a
minimum of 37 men to adequate
ly serve the citizens.
The two mill levy. If passed
would be a continuing levy and
would be earmarked specifically
for the police department's use.
