Cow Belles Meet Oct. 29 Mrs. Joe Oliver of John Day, president of the Oregon Cow Belles, will be a special guest at the annual fall luncheon of Klam ath County Cow Belles at the Pel ican Cafe on Monday, October 29. In m a k i n g the luncheon an nouncement, Mrs. Bill Gouldin, president of the Klamath County group, said Mrs. Oliver will come to Klamath Falls from Portland where she is slated to assist for the week with the Cow Belle booth at the Pacific-International Live atock Exposition. Mri. Dave Campbell of Bly. state vice president, will also be in Portland to help with the Cow Belle and Cattlemen's Association booths. Her husband is president of the Klamath County Cattlemen's Association. ' Luncheon will be at 1 p.m. and notices are being mailed by the secretary to the 72 members of the county Cow Belle group. This will be an important busi ness meeting, Mrs. Gouldin stated. It is expected that plans will be announced for the 19S7 Beef for Fathers Day promotion in which the Klamath group always takes a prominent part. Mrs. Gouldin and Mrs. Campbell will be in Port land on October 22 to attend a meeting of the executive board of the state Cow Belle association at which preliminary plans for the promotion will be decided. Boivin Seeks Timber Aid State Senator Harry Boivin said Friday that he will support a plan to have an interim committee ap pointed at the next session of the State Legislature to make a com prehensive study of the natural resources of the Klamath Indian Reservation. Boivin also said he was in ac cord with the Klamath and Lake county courts which recently de cided to' ask Governor Elmo Smith to convene the State Board of Forestry for the purpose of get ting such a study started. "That is a splendid idea," Boi vin said, "but it should be carried farther. I believe a legislative in terim committee should be ap pointed. Such a committee could function when the Legislature is not in session. "We must do anything possible to preserve one of the best kept forests in the United States," he contined. "Improper cutting of the reservation timber would not only cause great loss to Klamath Coun ty but the entire state. Proper con' trol of this timber stand will maintain for Klamath County, a permanent industry. Boivin concluded with the asser tion that although the federal gov ernment is now trying to work out a plan for terminating the reser vation and protecting the timber, still Oregon should conduct an in dependent investigation of the problem to safeguard the interest of the state.
