In 1939, determined to advance in bis new profession, Clark be gan an intensive study of crimin ology and spent three months at the FBI National Police Academy in Washington, D.C. Clark was employed by the Nebraska State Crime Bureau and soon was named superinten dent. TRAVEL BUti As he looks back on it now, he is convinced that the travel bus which bit him when he took up rug selling struck again. He quit his job in Lincoln, Nebraska and with his family headed west. After touring the Pacific Coast, he look a job as internal security officer at the Japanese Relocation Center in Tulclake. When the camp was closed, Clark accepted a job as chief of police at Seward, Alas ka. He spent three years in the I north country and then came to Klamath Falls. "Crime patterns have been changing in recent years almost as rupidly as' Pans styles, he said. "Some types of lawlessness have gone out of style. For in stance, you hardly ever hear jA a confidence man operating ' any more, llus type ol crook has found nut that Barnum was wrong. There isn't one born every minute these days." Clark also said that 90 per cent of all felonies are perpetrated by persons under the influence of liquor. "We've had a dozen murders in the past couple of years in Klamath County," he added, "All except one or two of the killers were drunk at the time the crimes were committed. Mr. and Mrs. Clark, who reside at 129 South Henry, have two sons, John, 20, serving with the U.S. Murines in the South Pacific, and Charles. 14, a student at Klamath Union High School. Mrs. Mary Young, club presi dent, presented the cash award to ltfrs. E. Holley, manager of the Mercantile Ladies Department, who arranged the prize winning window. Second place award was given to Ganim's Men's Store and third to Santini's Apparel Shop. Mrs. Gerold Moore, local BPW member was chairman of the con test. Starting October 10. the Civilian Defense programs will appear at 6 p.m. the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Pro grams for the Ground Observer Corps are scheduled for the third and fifth Wednesdays of each month at H p.m. The 15-minute programs will fea ture local personnel and will origi nate at KOTI-TV.
