For four weeks, the prosecution, handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Fred erick T. Doyle, put on the record the testimony of 60 witnesses. By far the most important wit ness for the state was Joseph J. Kehoe Jr. He told how he participated in the arrest of Faherty and Richard son the last of the eight to be arrested ma Dorchester dis trict tenement last May 16. He said Richardson ran into the bathroom "about a step in front of me." At the same time, he said, he "observed Faherty going lor guns on a chair. The FBI man said he spun Richardson one way and lunged at Faherty, knocking both off bal ance and overcoming them. Shalrr was acquitted last night of charges connected with an at tempted bombing of the Alamo' Motor Freight Lines here Jan. 9, 1955. The iurv returned the verdict clearing Shafer of a charge of possessing a dynamite bomb on or about Jan. 5, 1955, at 10:43 p.m. Shafer, president and secretary of Teamsters Union Local 657, said he was "real happy." Two state witnesses who linked Shafer to the attempted hombing during a labor dispute were ar rested earlier yesterday. Their testimony had implicated Shafer and themselves in the at tempt. The jury was ordered to con sider only one charge against Shafer, possession of a dynamite bomb. He originally was charged also with aiding and abetting Owens to possess a bomb and with directing Owens to keep a bomb. Owens testified that at Shafer's direction, he stole the dynamite used in the attempt, which failed, apparently because of a faulty1 fuse. Shafer's defense brought to the stand several character witnesses and made several attempts to pro vide an alibi for his whereabouts during the time he was allegedly plotting the bombing attempt.
