From right the yell leaders are Gail Hunter of Klamath Falls, Phyllis Richardson of Redmond who was graduated last June in commercial illustration and is back for her third year for the screen printing technology courte, Larry Robinson of Springfield, Shirley Chancy and Jo Anne Bellinger, both of Klamath Falls. Their debut was very successful, according to Dean of Women Virginia Kempston, who will be their chaperone if it is decided to take the' squad on out-of-town trips. Come and see them in action at the next OTI home game, Saturday, October 6, when the Owls play Portland State. TV Series Star Laments Part In Same Old Role By BOB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD It isn't as rosy as you'd think to be a TV idol of American kids, says Bill Williams. Handsome, rugged Bill has re sumed his movie career, fighting out West with George Montgomery in Pawnee." But the nation s youngsters know him better as Kit Carson, the intrepid hero of half hour TV films. Everyone in Hollywood thinks of TV series stars as rolling in dough, especially when the films hit the rerun market, as the Kit Carsons are now. Bill corrects that impression. "I'm not getting a cent from the reruns." he said. "Not a cent. I made my contract in 1950, be fore the Screen Actors Guild made a deal for the payment of actors on reruns." I Has the series helped his screen salary? "Oddly enough, it hasn't," he replied. It's a funny thing about producers: When they see you in one kind of role, they want to keep you in it. "My aim now is to get out of Westerns. I can do comedy; I make a good heavy. But they've got me typed. Out of my last seven pictures, six have been Westerns. So much for the debit side, What are the credits? "I was making a good salary," he said. "For the first time in my life, I was able to save some money to invest. New Road Law Asked For Oregon SALEM Ml The Oregon State imitlee Highway Commission said Mon day that it will ask for complete authority to make throughways out of existing state highways. The present law prevents chang ing existing roads into through- ways, which are highways with limited access, if there are 10 or more business establishments. The proposed change would remove this restriction. C. W. Enfield, chief counsel for the Highway Commission, told about the bill at a meeting of the Legislative Highway Interim Committee. He said the bill is needed in order to comply with the new federal interstate highway law, under which the Pacific Highway and the Columbia River-Old Ore gon Trail Highway east of Port land will be improved. . Enfield said that unless the restriction is removed, the federal government will step in and make freeways out of some existing parts of those two roads. However, Enfield made clear that the commission wants the restriction removed on all parts of the state highway system.
