YMCA Leadership Training Sessions Held In Klamath A series of leadership training i YMCA development program corn- workshops on work with teen-agers r.were held last week at the Klam- ath Palls YMCA and In private I homes. The sessions were under I the direction of Mrs. Dean Prof- fitt, Olympia. Washington. Mrs. Proffitt, director of youth ;,work In the Olympia YMCA and , active in Washington youth move . ments. stressed that the task of 1 the YMCA is to train new leaders j both adults and youth in accept 1 lng responsibility and meeting thelr's and others needs in local 'and world affairs. I Many specific program tools were pointed out to help the ad- viser in his job. Particular refer 1 ence was made by Mrs. Proffitt t to a national study made on "Hi-Y Today" which clearly indicates the J strengths and weaknesses of the t program. t Three aids which can be used Mo improve the effectiveness of J Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y clubs were dis- cussed at the meetings. They were: McCleery attitude scale, christian ? education goals and a group lnter ) est finder. These tests will be used by the local YMCA teen-age clubs Mn 1956-57. I The youth as an individual comes I to the group in need of fellowship acknowledging and respecting J the discipline required to properly .conduct group activities, Mrs. Prof- fitt stated. The youth takes a neces sary part in a pattern of success ful group enterprises which aid in developing his self-confidence. By joining the Y groups his place in J the world of youth will be made I more secure and his sense of dis cipline and Justice is emphasized, ! said Mrs. Proffitt. Ph. 5323 British Pilots Die In Crash HONG KONG OB Two carrier based British navy Seahawk jets crashed into a fog-shrouded hill near here Monday and burst into flames. Both pilots and a Chinese wom an were killed. The woman's home was demolished by wreckage of one of the planes. The jets, from the aircraft car rier Centaur, had Just roared over Hong Kong in tight formation dur ing the final stage of the three day fleet exercises. Cow Palace Show On SAN FRANCISCO (UP) Judg ing of beef, dairy cattle, market hogs and fat lambs took the spot light today at the Grand National Junior Livestock Exposition at the Cow Palace. The schedule Included special judging of livestock merit award beef cattle. This is Ihe group of fed-out calves which deserving youngsters bought after last year's show with 112s cash grants irom various donors. In Judging yesterday, the follow ing won champion or reserve champion ribbons in the hog divi sion: Jerry Talley, Lodi; John Bru baker, Modesto; Boyd Burroughs Hanford; Bobby Todd. Tooth Of Giant China Ape Found ' LONDON UP) The Chinese scientist who discovered the "Pek ing Man" reported Monday finding the tooth oi another giant ape who roamed China in prehistoric times. Pelptng Radio said Dr. Pel Wen Chung made the new discovery in a cave In Tahsin county, Kwtngsi Province. It was described as "fossil of giant ape, four times the site of a man's tooth." Dr. Pel was quoted: "We may say that a kind of ape, far bigger than man, lived In Kwangsi hun dreds of thousands of years ago , . .
