New Residents of Sprague Riv er are Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Matt and children, Mary Ann. Duane. Anthony, Royal, Calvin, Genevieve and Celine. The family has moved here from St. Ignatius. Montana. During a week's trip to' north western Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Williams saw their new grand son, Dean Carren Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Williams of Eu gene. They also visited their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Buster Brown and their old est son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Williams, all of Forest Grove. Wesley Brown operated the Wil liams' garage and service station during their absence. Lakeview Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Cuislorth of Hogeland, Montana, visited last week with his sister, Mrs. Frank Broslus at Lakeview. Baby The Modoc Medical Cen ter of Alturas reports the birth of a boy, weighing 7 lbs. 12 ozs. on March 3 to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Golden of. Alturas. He has been named Ernest Paul. City Briefs Beta Sigma Phi will sponsor a luncheon and style show at the Willard Hotel, Saturday, March 17. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. The style show will start at 3 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon are now on sale or may be ob tained at the hotel the day of the luncheon. A silver offering will be taicen during the style show, Capped Wilms, Nell Geston, 728 North Second Street, freshman stu dent nurse at West Suburban Hos pital, Oak Park, Illinois was among the class of 83 young women who received caps, Thursday evening, March 1. The ceremony was' held In the First Congregational Church of Oak Park. Mt. takl Garden Club will meet Monday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Goble will be present to show slides of flowers and gardens taken here and in Hawaii. Attending the meeting from Weed were Mrs. Vidricksen; Mrs. Mor ton Kaer and Mrs. Gerald Kubli Knowland Tells Election Stand WASHINGTON. N. C. ifi Sen. Knowland (R-Calif) Bays he thinks President Eisenhower can be re elected through a television cam paign but that other Republican office-seekers might be hurt if the President fails to make a more active campaign. In talks here and in nearby Wil son Wednesday the Senate minor ity leader also made these obser vations; 1. He is not a candidate for vice president. 2. He assumes the GOP presi dential ticket again will be Eisen hower and Vice President Nixon. 3. The Republicans can beat the Democrats again. Knowland said the administra tion has made a good record in the last three years. He said the budget has been reduced, taxes have been reduced, wage and price controls have 6een abolished and a good business system has been restored to the federal govern ment, all since President Eisen hower took office in 1953. Knowland said the "present course of the Democratic Party means that it will be taken over by the Americans for Democratic Action and the CIO with its being modeled after the British Labor Party." AF Globemaster Wheel Collapses PORTLAND IB The nose wheel of a mammoth Air Force Globe master plane collapsed on landing here Wednesday night, and 28 of about 70 men aboard suffered hand burns from sliding down an escape rope.' The airmen, returning from training in the South,' were ordered from the plane because of the pos sibility of fire. Some of them slid down the rope too fast and suf fered painful burns. One airman suffered a bone fracture in a heel in his rapid fall. The plane, ita tail in the air as high as a two-story building, was towed to the maintenance line where mechanics said repairs would require about 10 hours of work i.
