THURSDAY, MARCH 1. 1956 HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON PAGE TWENTY-THREE 0 INTRODUCED by Helena Ru binstein in conjunction with the newly launched spring fashions, is the "Etruscan Look," or smiling look, de signed to flatter every wo man because of its style sense and simplicity. It can be achieved by applying make-up according to skin tones with dark or light foun dations and similarly graded lipsticks, rouges and mas caras. Hairstyle is by Michel of Helena Rubinstein. THE BLONDE pictured here uses Peachbloom Silk-Tone Foundation and Silk-Screen Face Powder, Pink-Tone Liq uid Rouge, Brown eye pencil, blue mascara and eye shadow and Tender-Pink lipstick to achieve Helena Rubinstein's new "Etruscan Look." ETRUSCAN LOOK Combining inspiration from the 5th century B.C. paintings of an cient Etruria which she studied in Italy recently with 20th cen tury A.O. fashions Just introduced for this spring by the haute cou ture, Helena Rubinstein has cre ated a new make-up. She calls it "The Etruscan Look." Madame Rubinstein's kern sense of a trend of interest, in introduc ing tins make-up. is conlirmed by two striking facts: in the United States, the current issue of Life Magazine contains an important eight-page color section on Etrus can art; and in Rome, the famous Italian fashion designer, Gatti mni, has just presented his spring collection with the models wear In; the great beauty authority's "Etruscan Look." While in Paris recently, Madame Rubinstein visited the Etruscan ex hibition at the Louvre. Her sensi tive eye immediately saw the fal tering possibilities of transposing into modern idiom the ageless beauty of Etruscan women. Never doing things by half, she then traveled to Italy, where she pur sued her research among the fa mous Etruscan shrines at Tarqui nii and Chiusi. Back in Paris, she set to work evolving "The Etrus can Look." which she then intro duced in her famous salon on the Foubourg St. Honore. Immediately, it caueht the vivid imagination of Frenchwomen and now it is avail able to their American sisters. The first Impression given by "The Etruscan Look" is that of a serene and smiling countenance touched with sophisticated mystery and a trace of mockery. The fea tures are refined and faintly aqui line giving, with the arched eye brows, upturned lips and pointed jaw, a aencateiy tiutra look. Archaeological and linguistic rec ords of the Etruscan's national his tory relate to a period covering at least 7fl0 years from the 8th to the 1st centuries. B.C. They formed a homogeneous nation on the Tyrr henian side of Central Italy, and played a leading part in the his tory of Primitive Italy before its connuest and unification by the Romans. In fact, their painting constitutes the only extant group of large - scale paintings of the classical world before the Roman period, and thus it's from ancient Etruria that - the first chapter of Uie history of Italian painting comes to us. Women of all types will be flat tered by this "Look" because of its beautiful simplicity and the fact that It's a "natural" to blend with the slim and uncomplicated lines of fashions for spring, 1956. The only difference between a fair and a dark skinned woman wear ing "The Etruscan Look", is that one wears a light shade of Silk Tone Foundation and the other wears a darker shade and simi larly harmonized lipsticks, rouges, powder and eye make-up. To achieve this "Look" the fea tures are gracefully slenderized with make-up. This is done by ap plying Silk-Tone Liquid Rouge over the chosen foundation in m half moon on the cheekbone, and gently blending upward. For added drama a dot of rouge is applied at the tip of the chin, touch at each nostril and on the earlobes. English Silk Complexion Ponder, In a shade echoing Uie foundation, is then ap plied. Next the eyes are carefully out lined, both upper and lower lids, with Everpoint Eye Pencil in a "smiling" manner. This Is Intensi fied with an even application of Eye Shadow Stick on the upper lid. Waterproof Mascara is then applied on the upper lashes only. The lips are fully rounded In a pert, mysterious smile, and filled in with a lus.rous shade of "Young Lustre" Lipstick. They are high coifs, with saucy chignons, spit curls and ponv tails to complement the graceful features of the make up and give an added note of be guiling youthfulness.
