Kefau ver (D-Tenni ended a four-day Minnesota campaign last night with a call for removal of what h termed trie "union busting provisions of the Taft Hartley law." He drew applause from an audi ence of about 400 at the Minne apolis Labor Temple when he said: "The Elsenhower administra tion promised to eliminate certain features of the labor act but the first thing they did was to bring a bill out of a Senate committee with three .or four more strike busting provisions." He said also that the Eisenhow er administration had failed to "keep faith with the people" on the labor law changes as well as on the farm program and foreign policy. I cav m Mowvaj A progress report issued by John Carnegie, Medford Timber Sale As sistant for the Bureau of Land Management, indicates that a large share of the timber controlled by the bureau that was damaged in the large fires in Jackson County last September has been either sold or readied for sale. The timber damaged In the Jack son Creek fire near Jacksonville: whs purchased by Donna Timber ; Products Company of Medford on ! February 16. This tract, which con- j lainca an estimated 1,614, uuu board feet of timber, was purchased in an oral auction sale In which two other bidders participated. The' high bid was $35 per thousand hoard -feet, for the Douglas fir, 30.9n for . ponderosa pine, $39 for sugar pine, S9 for incense cedar and 513 for the white fir. The fire-killed timber In the! Blackwell Hill fire was sold to j George Cook of Ashland on Feb-! nnry 17 for $7.50 per thousand . for the Douglas fir and $6 for ponderosa pine. These three tracts contained an estimated 3.007.000 board feet. A fourth tract, containing approxi-j mately five million board feet, will probably bo advertised for sale in April, leaving approximately 10 million board feet of Intermingled fire-killed and green timber yet to , be cruised for sales later in thet spring, ; The first tract, containing an estimated 451.000 board feet, was purchased by Olson-Ross Lumber Company on January in for $29.15 tor Douglas fir. $22.20 for ponder osa pine, $19.85 for sugar pine, and $9.20 for Incense cedar. Llovd Timber Comnanv pur chased the second tract, containing an estimated a.aai.uou Doard lect. on January 19 for $30 for Douglas fir, $23.55 for ponderosa pine, $24 for sugar pine and $7 for incense! cedar. DeArmond Brothers Lumber; Company purchased the third' tract, containing an estimated 275. 000 board feet on February 14 for S24.46 for Douglas fir. $12.65 for ponderosa pine, $21.40 lor sugar pine and $5. (to for Incense cedar. As nn erosion control measure the bureau seeded 670 acres in these fires to grass last fall, ac cording to Carnegie's report. The present plans call for considerable reforestation work to be done by the bureau and the timber purchas ers as logging is completed. Donna Timber Products Com pany will be reouired to plant pon derosa pine .seedlings on 78 acres on their sale area and Lloyd Tim ber Company will also plant pon derosa pine seedlings on 180 acres on their sale area. The bureau It self plans to plant pine seec.lings on 40 acres Included In the Olson Ross Lumber Company sale area, the 120 acres In the DeArmond Brothers lumber Company area and an additional 100 acres or more In the Jackson Creek fire. All of these areas will be planted with 2-vear-old seedlings; It is an ticipated that they can be com pleted by the end of 1956. Tree planting will also be required of the purchasers of the remaining Svkes Creek sales, although those sales will be in areas where dam age was less severe and an ade quate seed source can be saved to assure natural relorestation on por.tlons of the areas. None of the remaining tire-killed timber wrtl be offered lor sale be fore April. On March 1. two tracts of salvage timber located in Jack son County and containing an esti mated 386.000 board feci will be oflered for sale and on March 15 one tract of salvage and three tracts of green timber, containing an estimated 7,672,000 board feet will be offered. Information regard ing these sales may be secured from the district forester's office in the Medford City Hall.
