OREGON PAGE SEVEN New Formula For Gas Told Standard Oil Company of Cali fornia today announced the West's first automotive gasoline mad? with an aviation anti-knock fuel formula. This aviation blend Is available only in Standard's premium grade gasoline. Company engineers say the new gasoline is designed to meet the special performance requirements of modern engines. These special needs are the result of increased compression ratios, radical cylin der head designs, and critical valve operation. Extensive tests in Standard's laboratories and on the road indicate- the new gasoline lengthens valve life and reduces combustion chamber deposits, thus improving octane performance. A substantial reduction in wear rate of piston rlnps and cylinder walls also is re ported in the tests. Spokesmen for Standard Oil sav the same benefits improve per- iormance 01 older cars as well. Primary purpose of the new blend ing, however, is to make possible all the performance designed into modern high-compression engines. A BENEFIT SILVER TEA and doll exhibit will be staged February 29, 2 to 4 p.m. in the First Methodist Church. Proceeds from the affair will go to the Methodist Home in Salem. Over 1 00 dolls, handmade by Mrs. Glenn F. Johnck, ranging in size from one half inch to 20 inches, will be on display. Mrs. Johnck is a member of the DoUmakers Guild. Johnck, will be displayed during a silver tea at the First Methodist Church on February 2ft to be sponsored by the Women's Society of Christian Service. Tea hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sizes of the dolls range from one half inch to 20 inches and represent many countries of the world. Mrs. Johnck has used a variety of materials, wire, paper. cloth, yarn, nylon and cotton in making the attractive display. Her dolls have been used for window displays, story-telling illus trations, table decorations, posters, church projects in youth work, arts and crafts displays for Girl Scout wrork. for church benefits and for a PTA carnival. Mrs. Johnck is a member of the Dollmakers Guild and has supplied customers with miniatures in var ious states. One year her dolls were sold at the House of Dolls in Santa Claus, Indiana.
