Such a matter as bad weather can knock the ground rules into a cocked hat, of course. Then, in m:v a home, it's a question of who has the stronger will Sunday afternoon in the East is a tough one, for example. From noon on it's a hassel to see who wins parent or child. The three major networks have quite a few programs which children enjoy and quite a few which their par ents favor. Unfortunately most of these full at the same time on different channels. The 34-year-old convicted kidnap rapist has asked the right to ap peal Federal Judge Louis E. Good man's ruling last Jan. 31 refusing to fjrant him a new trial. The wrk, filed Saturday, claimed Chessman was denied adequate time and opportunity to prepare for the January hearing. It also alleges that Judge Goodman erred in not permitting another .tudec to rule on a plea for a change of venue. The 22paue writ, co-signed by attorneys Georac T. Davis and Ro.salie Asher, listed dozens of ad ditional reasons why Goodman should permit an appeal to appel ate court. Is that there is no viewing after 7 p.m. "If the children watch until 15 minutes before bedtime," says Dr. Caldwell, -they're all keyed up and they won't get to sleep for an hour. First and second graders usually need close to 12 hours sleep and they simply don't get it when thev stay up too late." Disneyland on ABC-TV from 7:3(1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Eastern time) on Wednesday evenings raises a great problem. Dr. Caldwell con fesses. She thinks it an excellent program but its time is unfortu nate. First and second grade teach ers have told her they can tell tho.se among their pupils who watched it the night before; the kids just aren't as wide awake the next morning. Every ground rule needs an ex- l ception, of course, and the excep j ticn in the Caldwell household Is Rin Tin Tin, which comes on ABC- TV at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The fact it s Friday, with no school the next day, takes the curse off it. Admittedly it's tough on Dr. Caldwell's 14-ycar-old and 9-year-old to maintain 6-year-old viewing habits. But. as every parent knows. it has to be a sporting proposition that if one child can view -the set so can another. That, children, is justice. Dr. Caldwell knows of no tele vision program that is "bad for" the kids. To the contrary, she thinks thevprofframs- have a high level of entertainment value. In her personal recommendations she is not concerned with morals; she's concerned with health. I think she has a point that Is as applicable to us oldsters as to the youngest set. As long as view ing doesn't affect your physical and mental health just help your self. - , I Films Shown PORT ROCK A talk on "Con servation of Wild Life" nd the showing of color slides, as weii a. films entitled. "Realm Of the Wild" and "Olacier Park Studies." were presented by Ed Hansen of the Oreson Stntt Oame Commis-! sion here Thursday night. This i completed his visits to all Lake ! On Friday the speaker, who Is game biologist for the southeast regional office, joined the Oregon Cooperative Research Unit from Oregon State College which Is now , at Drake's flat, near Plush. The group is In Its third year of a study of antelope for the game commission. Hansen, who was graduated ' from OSC last year, wrote a thesis on "Survival of the Prong Horn ! Antelope in South Central Oregon in 1953-54." Next week the school talks will be givin in Harney County, followed by Malheur Coun ty. Hansen plans a return visit next year. KLAMATH THEATER PATRONS contributed $768.27 to the March of Dimes this year. The patrons contributed the funds during show intermissions at three Klamath theaters owned by Klamath Theaters Inc. Firm Declares 1st Dividend A five per cent dividend was declared'recently by the employe federal credit union of the Elling son Lumber Company.
