' FLOORS GET NEW LOOK Now weaves, exciting patterns nd an array of textured contem porary designs are sprinkled with new colors for Spring '56 in the Lee? carpet line. They run the range from nubby textures and modern abstracts to 18th Century brocades. A distinctively flecked effect, aptly named, "Charcross," fea ture's an all over application of charcoal dabs against the ground color. The result is the appearance of casual texture, yet oiiering the practicality and versatility of plain cut pile carpet. This new quality is woven by a new Lees technique. "Charcross" ground green, sandalwood, Ivory, aqua mist, dove fjrey and shell beige, all in 12-foot widths. The carpet is made with face yarns of all wool. Another new Lees quality intro duced for 1956 is a Wilton beauty called - "Ovation." Styled for use with traditionally flavored contem porary furniture. "Ovation" fea tures a graceful scroll design etched in high cut pile against a low relief of a flat ground. The result- provides a plushy, elegant carpet. It 'Is all wool, made in 12 and 15-foot widths in these crystal tone shades of green, rose quartz, nutria, dove grey and aquagreen. Pour new designs give fresh influence to famous "Virginian" quality. One is a 19th Century Georgian style on an embossed Kashmir greige ground. Tan scrolls are scaled for moderately-sized Interiors. A rich 18th Century brocade of flowers and scrolls against a trio of beige, rose and antique black tones is another new "Virginian," while a third design features floral bouquets in golds, reds, pinks, greens, blues and amethyst against a textured ground of ivory beige that is ideal for transitional furn ishings. An abstract pattern In contem porary feeling rounds out the new "Virginian" designs. This Is like a series- of moving shadows stud ded with accents , of ruby, tur quoise and aqua over an amethyst ground. A lively flowing design, called Sand Swirls in "Iridescent" quali ty Is a smoothly flowing, non-dl- rectional textured pattern. Pull down and regular all-wool yarns are dyed In two beautiful color combinations cool sea greens with shell beige and warm shore beiges and browns. New Spring clear colors are prominent in the Lees line. These show the tide of earth tones con tinuing strong with nutria, sandal- wooa ana snowarop oeige ueiug added to several lines. The latter two-hues are added to "Springloop" and "Innovation" two a!l-rayon tufted carpets. Anoth er tufted sensation, all - rayon "Twinkletuft" is being sparkled bv artdif on of "Twilight (natural, green, and brown). Valley Grey and Suntan Beige selltones. In "Valley Forge," a rayon-nylon blend tufted carpet. Turquoise, Pearl Beige and Pink are adding to the existing color line. "Candlelight," one of Lees out standing all-wool, special weave dualities. has had sandalwood cloud grey and ocean green added to the color line. WIDOWS On the national average, says the Kinlinger Letter, women live 6 years longer than their husbands and are about 3 years younger, making a 9-year difference in the life expectancies of average cou ples. Thus 13 per cent of women are widows while only 4 per cent of men are widowers. Add this to the fact that men leave their es tates, large and small, to their widows and you see why so much of the nation's wealth is In the hands of women.
