Grain Stocks Total Listed WASHINGTON (UP) The Agriculture Department reports Its stocks of wheat, com, oats, sor ghum grain, and barley on Jan. 1, totaled a record 116 mlUion tons. These stocks were In transit or stored at farms, terminals, govern ment-owned bins, mills, elevators and warehouses. Total wheat stocks 1.535.000.000 bushels were the larcest In his tory. This amount was 4 per cent larger than a year ago, and 70 per cent larger than the 1045-54 yearly average. Off-tarm stocks totaled 1.214,000.000 bushels, 6 per cent larger than a year earlier. Of the off-farm total, about five sixths of the wheat was either owned by the Commodity Credit Corporation or was warehouse stored under government commod ity loans. About one-fourth of the wheat on farms was under govern ment loan. Other stocks on hand compared with a year ago were: Rye: 38,800,000 bushels, up 11 per cent; com stocks: 3,057,000,000 bushels, compared with 2.825,000, 000 bushels a year sgo; oats: 1,083,000,000 bushels, up seven per eent; barley: 303,000,000 , bushels compared with 383,000,000 bushels', sorghum grain: 222,500,000 bushels, Up It per cent.
