MYERS, 879 Lakejhore Drive, a tiny, sprightly person, became an octogenarian on Friday the 13th of this month. She was also born on Friday the 13th. This year's birth, day anniversary was marked with a surprise party given for her by a group of friends. (See story.) Photo by Kettler Mrs. W. P.' Myers Born 80 Years Ago Friday the 13th Is Party Honoree Friday the 13th was no mere day of apprehensive superstition to Mrs. W. P. Myers, who was born 80 years ago on Friday the 13th and who, on her 80th birthday anniver sary, was feted with a surprise party. Part of the plot was a dinner invitation extended to her and Mrs. Faye Bevins by Jack Mo nies who took them to dinner in town at 6 p.m. When they returned to Mrs. My ers' home, 879 Lakeshore Drive, thev were met by a roomful of friends, all of them singing "Happy Birthday to Mom." Lronna floner. anu Helen Balentine for the very suc cessful Christmas party at the Kappa Chapter Model Meeting A model meeting of Kappa Chap ter, Beta Sigma Phi, was held Tuesdav, January 10, in the Elks Club Party Room, to acquaint guests of the evening with the aims and purposes oi tne organizauon. Isabelle Brixner was hostess with eo-hostesses Dorothy Crosbf and Dorothy Tepper. Lorraine MacPhail presented the program; after which, the host esses served refreshments. Guests included Charlotte Roland, Betty Perrin, Donna Turner, Shir lee Strurk, Jean Klcnltz. Jonny Vanish, Brownie Bramwell, Mary Lou P.oufs, Rita Glesin and Peggy Templeton. Other than the three hostesses, members present were Doris Dyke mcn. Juanila Goode. Lorraine MacPhail, Berthaial Mayfield, Lu ella Murphy, Betty Parsons, Lots Rea. Stevie Rufh, Glenna Sams. The spry and lively octogenarian is a busy business woman actively occupied as owner and manager of her nursery and landscaping business. She has lived on Lakeshore Drive since 1929 when she moved into her new house that year. The Myers bought the first lot sold In that Lakeshore district in 1928. Yacht Club on January 10. She also made special mention of Alan Abner for his performance as a Jolly "Southern" Santa Cluas. A Christmas card from Mabel Henry, now living in California, was read by the members. A message to all the girls was delivered by Lura Dunlavy from Gladys Orrell, now living in Eu gene. The next meeting will be Feb ruary 7, at Dottle Poole's on Sum mers Lane. OLIVE BRANCH REBEKAH LODGE WEED Twenty members of the Olive Branch Club of Atlanta Rebekah Lodge No. 373 attended the January 4 meeting at the home of Mr. J. H. McMichael with Mrs. Lester Boydstun as co hostess. Installation of new officers will be held February 6 at the home of Mrs. Alvin Austin, it was an nounced by Mrs. O. A. Installing officers were district deputy president, Lorene McCol ium; deputy marshal, Vera Fritsch, deputy -warden, Bernlce Mccrack en; deputy recording secretary, Margaret Biden; deputy financial secretary, Stella Dryden; deputy chaplain, Zelma Howard; deputy guardian, Zella Blankenship; and musician, Alma Cofer; all past no ble grands. Flink-Steyskal . Vows Exchanged In Sacramento TULELAKE Mary Stcyskal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Steyskal, Tulelake, became the bride on January 7, of Andrew Flink, Sacramento. The bride groom ,1s the son of Mrs, Dorothy Flink of that city. The double-ring ceremony was read in the presence of Immediate relatives and close friends in the Wedding Chapel in the California city. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street length frock of lace and satin In off white. Her short veil was held by a tiara of lace and seed pearls. She carried an arrangement of white carnations and red rosebuds. Her only attendant was Jean Taylor', Tulelake, who wore a street length frock of navy taffeta and carried a shower bouquet of shattered white carnations. Raymond Sleichland, Sacramen to, was best man. Kenneth Stey skal, brother of the bride, was usher. The new Mrs. Flink is a grad uate of the Tulelake High School with the class of 1955. She is now with the Bank of America in Sac ramento. Her husband Is with Sears. Martha Circle WEED The January 9 meet ing of the Maratha Circle of Weed Community Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. Rol land Riley. Mrs. Herbert Hanson was co-hostess to the 22 members attending. Mrs. Jim Booth, president, led the business session; devotlonals were led by Mrs. Harry Hedge peth. Mrs. Jack Jackson was wel comed as a new member and Mrs. J. ' Belzer attended as a guest. The February t meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Arno Bast. Irene Rickman, with an arm bou quet of red roses; and Theta Rho girls, -Vivian Wilbanks and Loa An drus, presented a basket of flowers from Prosperity Rebekah Lodge. After an address by the new noble grand, the ceremony was closed by the chorus. Table decorations for the .recep tion in the dining room were in the Rebekah colors. ' Preceding the meeting, the mem bers were entertained by Myralee Cofer who played two piano solos. Lodge was opened by the 1965 ofticers, Lucille Wlrtz presiding. A gala evening Is being planned to honor retiring Commodore Lewis Kandra and his, staff and to wel come the new slate of officers. Don Sloan will emcee the dinner and Installation. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stoner are in charge of social ar rangements. Hospitality hour will begin at 7 p.m., dinner will be served at 8:30 and music for danc ing later will be furnished by the Staiiighter Trio. FAREWELL PARTY FOR FIREMAN CHILOQUIN The Chiloquln Volunteer Firemen and their wives, the Fire Belles, gave a going away party for Wayne DuBols. fireman, who Is leaving to Join the Marine Air Corps. Mr. and Mrr. Joseph Adamo were hosts. Wayne was given an overnight kit as a farewell gift. Refreshments were served by the hosts at the close of the party. Mr. and Mrs: Floyd Hescock were presented with a gilt for thr-lr third son, Floyd Jr. The Fire Belles, whose last busi ness meeting was held January 9, at the home of Mrs. Adamo, have scheduled another meeting Janu ary 24, at which time money mak ing plans will be discussed.
