Because of a gasoline shortage, Lt. Harry Mcngershausen report ed, the upper parts of the bodies escaped the flames and were "well recognisable." He said they were buried in the chancellery garden near the air raid shelter In which the pair had committed suicide. Mengershausen added that sev eral months after the Russians captured him, they took him back to the burial spot to Identify the grave. He said the grave was empty, and that apparently the Russians wanted only to confirm the location. Sheppard today held new hope to win his freedom fol lowing a decision by the Ohio Su preme Court to review his second- degree murder conviction. It also will mean a broadening ofa the county tax base. The year 1955 marked the be ginning of construction at the Klamath Falls air base bv the U S. Air Force. About 1.100 USAF serv ice personnel will be added to the population of the county. Tucker reminded the chamber members that, in addition to these military personnel, and their families, many aervice trades workers will be attracted to Klamath Falls to serve the air base families. The military payroll of about (3.500,000 annually will have the same effect on the county's econ omy as the addition of another in dustry the sire of Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. Tucker warned that the Influx of air personnel this year will pose certain housing and other problems for the community.
