O'Neill, ap-potntee-delcgnte of Governor Paul Patterson to the White House Con ference on Education held in Wash ington, D.O. in November of last year, is not In favor of proposed lederal aid to schools. Mrs. O'Neill, member of the Oregon State Board of Educallon, speaker before the Klamath Falls Soroptlmlst Club on January 5, agreed With the minority of the 1,800 official delegates present, that educational problems should be worked out at grassroot levels. Although no official vote on the proposal was taken, sentiment In favor of federal aid for schools was two to one around the confer ence tables, Mrs. O'Neill stated. Bhe gave as two reasons for her opinion. (1), opposition to more centralized control In the federal government and (2) the burdening of financially secure states such as Oregon with taxes that would benefit stales with financial defi cits. Delegates considered the six ma jor educational questions facing school officials today: (1) What Should Our Schools Accom plish? (21 How Can We Get the School Facilities We Need? 131 How Can We Get EnouRh Good Teachers and Keen Them? 14 1 How Can We Organize Our School Jehovah's Witnesses Hold Religious Meetings In KF The first session of "The Right Jehovah's Witnesses were organ- Kind of Ministers" assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses was attended by 655 delegates Friday night at the fairgrounds auditorium. High lights of the meeting were the model Theocratic Ministry School and service meeting, a regular training feature In the more than 16,000 congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses throughout the world. The convention delegates con vened to hear convention chair man, Lawrence Kraushaar, speak on the subject of baptism. Mr. Kraushaar pointed out "that Christian dedication to Jehovah, followed by water baptism is an essential part of true worship. Such a dedication Is an act of a person In setting himself apart by solemn agreement, unreserved ly to do the will of Jehovah God, through Christ Jesus, as that will la set forth In the Bible. The dedi cation must be symbolized by wa ter baptism, which must be by complete submersion In water." He further slated "that baptism is commanded for all (Malt, 28: 19, 20), but it must be a free will decision and the individual making such decision must be faithful and obedient to God, walking in new ness of life forever, At the conclusion' of the dis course candidates arose signifying their desire to be immersed. The candidates then proceeded to the Immersion pool at the Klamath Un ion High School. More than 700 delegates attend ed the Saturday evening session. As the convention theme, "Right Kind or Ministers" developed, the Witnesses learned of the great ex pansion work going on world-wide. The principal speaker, Nicholas Kovalak Jr., pointed out "that 600 home Bible studies were being con ducted by the 18 congregations of Oregon Circuit No. 1. This Import ant feature of the ministry will be stressed for 1956." The importance of congregation meetings wns stressed by the speaker as he pointed out "that thorough prepa ration was essential for the minis try." Mr. Kovalak posed these pro vocative questions, "Who Is the main cause of all these fears? How can man overcome these iears today?"
