"EMPRESS FISH" is the
Oriental fairy tale name of
this seaweed - green, gold
overprinted cotton that Mel
ba Hobson has fashioned info
a vwimsuit and matching skirt
for her 1956 resort and cruise
collection of Heatherlane.
The swimsuit, one piece, has
Rickshaw bloomers with a
decorative tie string at waist
and thigh. It's lined through
out, to give insurance that the
smooth bodice fit and the
groups of gathers shaping the
neckline will stay that way.
The matching box pleated
skirt is lined with a plain col
or. Both come also in Orient
pink or aqua, gold overprinted.

AN ELEGANT CANNED HAM which needs no preparation
time can be the feature of any meal. The canned nam, of
course, is fully cooked so you can serve it as is, or heat it
through, if you prefer. Photograph and suggestions from
Martha Logan Test Kitchens of. Swift and Company.
CANNED HAM
Fully cooked canned bams now
range from l'j to 13 pounds which
means you can buy just the size
you need for the family or for
company. They've saved many a
' hostess from embarrassment when
her cocktail party guests were
jfuire numerous and hungrier than
anticipated.
These hams are boneless so you
can plan on using all of the meat
you purchase with no waste. Select
o quality, branded canned bam so
you can be sure qf fine flavor and
texture., t
To serve one' of these hams, sim
ply remove it from the can and
slice it cold for cold service
score and glaze the surface if you
wish to heat It through. You can
serve canned ham sliced on cold
meat trays or for hearty sand
wiches. And leftovers are wonder
ful diced and added to scrambled
eggs, potato or vegetable salads
If you do serve the ham cold,- be
sure to save the Jelly to use In
making gravies and sauces or for
part of the liquid In a ham loaf.
For a hot, glased ham. place
the ham, fat side up. on a rack
in an open pan and pour the na
tural jelly over It. Heat In a slow
oven (329 degrees) 10 to IS min
utes a pound. Then score the fat
Into diamond shapes, cover with
brown augar and brown In a hot
oven.
Here is a recipe from Swift and
Company which features canned

INDIVIDUAL FRUITED PUDDlNGS are lighter than many sea
sonal sweets because they are made with gelatine. The light
ness makes them particularly appealing to waistline-conscious
people who still love rich, winter time desserts. As a partner,
always serve hot coffee dainty demi-tasse cups filled with
the hearty, aromatic brew. Coffee, somehow, brings out the
best in evory dessert. '
