Ike's Name To Be Entered KARRISBURG, Pa. 11 A Re publican state legislator said to day he planned to enter President Eisenhower's name in Pennsyl vania's presidential preference pri mary next April 24. Rep. Paige Varner said his de cision was not based on any In formation that Eisenhower would seek, re-election. Varner said the decision was his alone and that he had not con sulted with the Republican state chairman, Miles Horst, or with any other party leaders. If Horst "says no. of course I'll abide by his word," Varner said in making his statement to a newsman. . Horst has said he hopes the President will seek re-election. The only announced entrant in the Pennsylvania primary Is Dem ocrat Adlai Stevenson. Elsenhower polled a record 863, 000 votes in the Republican pri mary in 1952, more than six times the number polled by the GOP runner-up Harold Stassen. He also got 28,800 In the Democratic pri mary, won by Sen. Kefauver (D Tenn) with some 100,000 votes. Home Extension BONANZA By Irene Hartley The Bonanza Home Extension Unit had as its December project at the library, "MakitWiCake' At tractive. The demonstration' was led by Mrs. Cecil Haley and Mrs. Ivan Bold. Following the potluck luncheon there was Christmas gift exchange. The January 10 meeting will also be held at the library. The pro ject for study will be "Rolls and Bread Made from Sweet Dough." Leaders are Mrs. Lester Jones and Mrs. Kathle' Wilson. The intruder yesterday entered a bedroom where- Mary Susan Felknor, 4, and her brother Frank, 2, were sleeping. He quited the awakened Mary Susan by telling her he came to leave presents under the Christ mas tree "for your daddy." Air Force Capt. Edward M. Felknor, 32. and his father-in-law, Frank E. Miller, 55, Clinton. S.C., were killed with six shots from a .22 caliber pistol when they sur prized the burglar in another bed room. Authorities questioned 13 persons without . finding a single clue to the identity of the slayer. The search for the killer ranged from Oakdale. La., to Natchez, Miss. He was described as badly in need of a shave and was be lieved to have fled the pre-dawn death scene in a late model Chev rolet coupe. . IPI The In ternal Revenue Service here re ceived a Christmas present of a SI. 000 negotiable bond in the mail yesterday. With -it was this note, addressed to "Dear Mr. Col lector": "The bond enclosed is for an income tax that is almost 20 years old." , The letter was signed "A Con scious-minded Taxpayer." KF Bid Request Postponed Due to an error it was reported in the Thursday edition of the Her ald and News that the 13th Naval District Public Works Office, Seat tle, was calling for bids for a six bed Infirmary at the Klamath Falls interceptor base. The report from the public works office said that bids would be opened on January 8, 1856. How ever, Lt. D. M. Feinman. resident offlcer-ln-charge of construction at the base, said Friday that the re quest for bids had been postponed inaeuniteiy. Feinman said that the Navy would announce the new time of bids some time in the future. Hospital officials said Thursday that John Gilbert Graham, 23, ac cused saboteur of a United Air Lines plane in which' H persons perished, will eat turkey and trim mings alone in his I by 11 foot cubicle. He is expected to have two vis itors his minister. The Rev. Lloyd C. Kellams, and his wife, Gloria. There will be no gifts for Gra ham, however. He is charged with murdering his mother, Mrs. Daisie E. King. 54. She died in the Nov. 1 crash of the big four-engine plane in a northern Colorado beet field. The crest was expected to reach the Lost River diversion dam sometime last night, but rams and warer from a broken dam on the Lloyd Gift ranch in Langell Valley made the cresting time problematical. Agriculture Department Presses Farm Investigation WASHINGTON (UP) The Agri culture Department today pressed its investigation to discover if price-gouging by middlemen may be partly the cause of plummeting farm profits. Secretary of Agriculture Ezra T. Benson said he wants to know if middlemen are reaping "Improp- Radio Schedules 'Sing With Bing' "Christmas Sing With Bing," a special hour-long 'Christmas Eve broadcast starring Bine Crosby will be presented over KFLW and CBS radio on Saturday, December 24. from I to 1 p.m. The program will give listeners all over the nation a chance to Join the country's favorite singer of oarols in a full hour of Christ mas songs. In addition to Crosby, the program will feature the Norm an Luboff choir, Paul Weston's or chestra and live choral pickups from all over the United States and abroad. Another special feature of the broadcast will be the appearance of the youngster who wrote the best letter on the meaning of Christmas, chosen from thousands of letters sent to Crosby during the first two weeks in December. Red Cross Aids Flood Victims SAN FRANCISCO (UP) The American Red Cross leaped into action yesterday to help victims of floods in Northern California. Red Cross workers set up emer gency shelters and helped evacu ate residents from flooded areas in Sonoma, Napa. Plumas, Hum boldt, Siskiyou and Marin coun ties. ' ' They set up three shelters in public buildings in Napa County to provide food, beds and cloth ing for hundreds of refugees. At area headquarters in San Francisco, the Red Cross used the services of two ham radio operat ors to contact other hams in the stricken counties, especially in Humboldt County. Benson announced yesterday the farmer's share of the consumer food dollar declined to 30 cents in November, the lowest point in 15 years. However, he said while farm prices had declined 10 per cent compared to one year ago, retail food prices were down only 2 per cent. He said his department is mak ing detailed studies of marketing charges of various farm products to learn if the charges are unfairly inflated. Earlier this month he said "we know" some middle men's charges are out of line. Benson said the farmer is squeezed between rising farm costs and falling farm prices. He called the squeeze "a real ob stacle to a solution of the farm surplus problem." He said In an Interim report on his investigation that beef and pork are outstanding examples of the farm price spread. He said prices paid farmers for pigs and beef cattle have declined about-10 cents a pound during the last year, but retail beef prices have de clined only four cents and retail pork prices 6.1 cents. Demands have been made both in and ouuide of congress for an investigation of the price spread. Rep. Sid Simpson (R-Ill), a mem ber of the House Agriculture Com mittee, has proposed the calling of a bi-partisan farm conference to study the problem.
