day and the market was moderate
ly active but uneven. Butchers un
der 230 pounds were barely steady
but weights over 230 pounds were
steady to strong. Sows also were
steady to strong.
'Most mixed grades U.S. No
to 180 to 220 pounds brought $10.75
to til .50 per hundred pounds. How
ever, a few hundred head sold
at a top of $11.75. Most sows
weighing 350 to 600 pounds sold
at Jtf.25 to 9.25.
Salable receipts were 10,000
head, about 9.000 less than ex
pected.
A few loads and lots of mainly
choice grading steers and year
lings sold at $19.00 to $22.50. the
best price. Good to choice vealers
sold at $20.00 to $26.00, with odd
head of prime vealers up to $28.00.
Salable receipts were 2,000 head,
as expected.
The sheep market was fairly
active, with lambs mostly 25 cents
higher and slaughter sheep steady.
Good to prime woo led lambs
weighing 105 pounds and less
brought $17.26 to $19.00. Cull to
choice slaughter ewes sold at $4.50
to $6.75.
Salable receipts were 3,000 head,
about 1,000 more than expected.

tive action against the Jewish na
tion. The council planned to take up
the explosive Arab-Israel Issue
again this afternoon. Before It was

The Southern Pacific railroad will
be operating no trains out of Klam
ath Falls tonight, and today's
Shasta Daylight will not operate
through here in either direction.
S.P. officials here said today.
The Daylight operated north
from Oakland Pier (San Francisco'
to Davis, near Sacramento, and
the southbound train got as far
as Eugene. Both sets of equipment
will be turned and will operate
back to their terminals tonight.
Train number 20, the northbound
Klamath, after being held up for
several hours at Redding, will get
through to Klamath Falls, where
11 will terminate.
There were two major blocks on
the S.P. line. Trains from the south
were held up at Gibson, midway
between Dunsmuir and Redding be
cause of a washout. This, track has
been temporarily repaired, enabling
the Klamath and last , night's
southbound Cascade, which was
held at Dunsmuir, to get through.
Five cars of a freight train have
been derailed by a washout at
Cruzette, about 75 miles south of
Eugene, and more slides are re
ported In the area. S.P. officials
do not estimate when the Cruzette
tleup will be cleared up

and Eastern line to Bly wore

The council was not expected to
go farther than an expression of
censure, the action It has taken in
similar 'cases in the past.
Burns report said 56 Syrians and
6 Jews died in the Israeli raid on
the Syrian posts.
Declaring use of force, particu
larly at tills delicate stage, should
be "strongly condemned," Burns
likened the Galilee attack to the
Israeli raids on Klbya, Jordan, in
October 1053. and Egyptian-held
Gasa last February.
"Such action." he declared,
"may well produce violent reac
tion by the forces of the attacked
country and what had been con
ceived as a limited raid develops

Citing Israel's claim It made the
Galilee attack to silence Syrian
guns menacing Israeli shipping on
the sea, Burns declared: "No Is

Two Persons Confirm Abbott Alibi
OAKLAND (UP) Burton W.
Abbott got, strgng support yester
day from two witnesses who placed
him in a Red Bluff restaurant two
and one-half hours after Stephanie
Bryan disappeared in Berkeley.
Abbott, 37, smiled broadly as the
witnesses, a restaurant owner and
a waitress, dealt the prosecution's
carefully built up murder time
table what appeared to be a stag
gering blow.
The testimony was of crucial im
portance In backing up Abbott's
timetable for April 28, the day the
14-year-old schoolgirl disappeared.
Abbott Is on trial for her murder.
He was arrested July 20, shortly
after her body was found in a
shallow grave near his Trinity
County mountain cabin. Only five
days before, her purse and other
belongings turned up in the base
ment of his Alameda home.
Stephanie was last seen at 4 p.m.

Abbott claims at that hour he
was north of Sacramento, en route
to the mountain cabin.
One of the witnesses was Mrs.
Rose Arnone, who last April was
working as a waitress In the
Chuck Wagon Restaurant owned
by Robert C. Hall.
She testified that Abbott entered
the restaurant at about 6:30 p.m.
on the nisht of April 28. She said
she recalled particularly how Ab
bott told her he was headimj to the
cabin for a weekend of fishing.
Dunns cross-examination, de.
fense attorney Stanley Whitney got
himself cited for contempt of
court.
Asst. Dist. Atty. Folger Emer
son suggested tltfe witness was
"biased in favor of the defense."
Whitney interjected:
"Remember, Mr. Emerson, you
are talking to a young lady now,
not one of your women of tne
streets thst you have UDstalrs (in
the county jail) sometimes."
At this, Superior Judge Charles
Wade Snook cited Whitney, to ap
pear before him at -the end of the
day's session. He informed Whit
ney that he was fined 125 for con
tempt, Mrs. Arnone's former employer.
Hall, also testified that he recalled
seeing Abbott In the restaurant
April 28. He said Abbott was wear
ing a leather jacket.
Hall also recalled overhearing a
long conveisation between Abbott
and Mrs. Arnone about the fishing
at Donner Lake, where she had
been earlier with her husband.
